Not much of a story to this one. My partner and I woke up early at our hike in spike camp. Had a nice freeze dried breakfast and coffee. Walked about 150 yards from camp and bugled. Heard a barely audible distant reply. 3 minutes later another bugle from the same direction but now a few hundred yards away. Switched to cow calling for him to zero in on and three minutes later he bugles at around 75 yards. Spot him through the spruce coming hard. Walks past us at around 20 yards and I see six and quickly fire a shot in behind his shoulder. He bolts and we give him 10 minutes. All is quiet and we walk up to where he was. Look left and he's still standing, and wobbling 15 yards away. Put another shot behind the shoulder and he's down for the count.

First elk for me. Next one will hopefully be a shorter pack out.

Really?? I saw about 5-7 bulls posted so far, is that unbelieveable? For sure there are many that are not posted but personally I thinks its pretty quiet.

OP, congrats on a nice 6 point and thanks for posting the pics and story. Did you have to put him in the jet boat and jump a few gravel bars to get him out? Lol that was a crazy video. Happy hunting.

Oh, I'm sure there are more bulls being taken than posted here.....for sure.
But, some years on this site, people don't even bother posting until way after the season.
And many so far aren't raghorns, many are respectable 6 pt, where usually you see a lot just from Peace region and less points.(note: I do not have a problem with seeing the smaller bulls and those peoples success....)
I have already heard of 2 bulls taken out of the Princeton area, that never were posted, nor mentioned.
They might not even be members?
But, good on the folks here, that have been successful, and to be sharing.

Thanks for the comments. Pack out was around 5kms and 2100 vertical feet. Me and the partner did it in 2 trips over a day and a half, but in hindsight, not the smartest place to shoot a bull.

You're only young, dumb, and fit for so long.

That's because Princeton hunters don't like to advertise their bulls all over the internet. we have more than enough hunters up here from the lower mainland and the hunting pressure is pretty high. no disrespect meant by it

I never said once... This is definitely NOT my first time being young and dumb when hunting.... HAHA. But, you can only be young and dumb for so long. So far I haven't really learned my lesson when it comes to shooting animals way too far from basecamp.

Next up... Moose!
