Hi all,

I am looking at exploring the D'Arcy area for deer this coming weekend. I have been up there and did see a couple deer and bear while up there for work. I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time in that area. Not looking for honey holes, just advice for new hunter if I should stick to the Boston Bar, Kamloops and Cache Creek area over exploring D'Arcy. Again not looking for honey holes. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Try the power lines along Anderson lake, very steep though...

One of our favourite places for deer hunting near D’Arcy was the Microwave Forest Service Road area from the bottom & all the way to the top of the mountain(Birkenhead Peak).

LT(Lover 308 ), BH, I & a few other old hunting friends have taken more than a handful of deer from the area from 1966 to 1972 & again around 1979 the last time I was there hunting. Unbelievably scenic & rugged area with plenty of animals.

Watch out for bears. Had a few encounters, once while having only a single shot 22 (hunting grouse) & meeting a sow with 2 cubs. Turned around & ran like there was no tomorrow. They ran in the opposite direction.

Not too far away there are also the Blackwater & Birkenhead Lakes areas to hunt. My daughter went camping to Birkenhead Lake not too long ago & saw plenty of deer from the turn off.

Blackwater Lake is a small lake in the middle(see map & enlarge). Lots of deer on both sides of the lake & up to the mountains. Again watch out for bears-mostly black.

From the early 80’s to present we switched to Empire, Gang, Farwell, Big Creek area. (GOD’S COUNTRY)

Wolves seem to have had quite an impact on not just deer, but bears too. Used to see lots of deer and bears in the area but now see more wolf tracks in the snow.

Not saying you shouldn't try it out, but it may be tougher than in years past. The other areas may be better hunting, but if Darcy is close, that's often nice too.

The wolves won't eat everything !! :)

Thanks for the information gents. The microwave tower is where I was and saw the critters. I'll check out the powerline area as well. Sounds like it might be worth exploring.
