My wife, a Retired Co-worker(take an old fart hunting)and myself got drawn for a moose LEH close to home, so it's been double duty on the calling and since this moose draw is archery till Oct 15th we've had to pack bows and guns(elk open for rifle).

First day Sept 11th I grunted in a nice tender mini moose to 30 yards for my buddy and then 35 yards to me the caller...but he was such a midget that we couldn't get a shot at his vitals in the regen...damn archery...

I had located a big bodied moose pre-season but he was going to be a long pack out. Sept 12th we had made plans to go after him the next day....but as Sept 13 arrived my hunting partner lets me know his knee is all swollen and packing this monster out over 2 days might not be possible.

I make a last minute decision to head to another area where I got some Intel that a giant moose was seen this time last season...we watch this slew...till 9:30am when the team of loggers just up the mountain a few hundred meters away start cutting a logging block....great.

we endured 6 hours of non stop....3 chainsaws.. Waaaaaaa.waaaaaa.....waaaaaaaaa...waaaaaaaa..

we hiked around the slew to get a lay of the land and sit and watch, call, etc but no moose and no big bull tracks at 3:30pm they hadn't stopped cutting so we left.

We decide to check another high elevation area for the evening....I just about said ****itt and went home but my motto is "you can't get em sitting on the couch" so I kept going........up...and up....and up......we wind up the mountain.

I'm driving into a switchback, old regen block down and to my left but a year old block above it, then heavy timber....they have to cross the new block to get to safety....

the block has a dirt mound on the forward edge which obscures you from seeing 90% of it from the road.....but in that top 10% I see a cow....and she's busting outta there.

i yell Cow...spike the brakes.....slam it into park...kick open the door and go running to the top of the dirt mound..

buddy in the truck has no friggen clue is happening....things are happening Fast...

As I sprint up the mound I can see a bull following the cow....

Up with the rifle......lol.....(you see where this is going....???)

I did a quick 6 count, luckily it was one of those cases where all the points were easy to see and didn't delay.....but by this time they were into the heavy timber....I followed him in my scope for 15-20 ft and in very last possible gap in the cedars before he was gone forever....at between 150-200 yards....(never ranged it).....I squeezed off a shot.

Reload.....back on target....I see him stumbling sideways....boom....miss....then I loose sight of him....

This happened soooo fast....start to finish...id say less than 8 seconds....maybe less.

I sprint up the slash like Ben Friggen Johnson....and get into the heavy timber......I see something tan......

move a couple steps and see him upside down, rack dug into the duff and his tongue hangin out...went max 20ft from the first shot.....

Getting him out took 3 hours of back breaking dragging.....I had the bright idea that we were gonna get him to the truck in 2 pieces.....well we did....but now my back feels like I did max deadlifts all day long. I haven't heard back from my partner today....good chance...I might have killed him...lol..

Hell of a bull....congrats.

Your older partner will be thanking you when the aches and pains are long forgotten and he's sinking his teeth into a juicy
mouthful of roast.

lol...by that point....we had no water....we just wanted to get the frick outta there and bury out heads in a creek. I never took a pic of him loaded...

front half we we grunted up onto the front rack of the quad, then drove it into the back of the truck.....then drug the rear half on top of a dirt mount and backed the truck up and rolled it onto the tailgate...strapped it all down.

road into the slash was all reclaimed so the quad was next to useless.

I was wondering why you were counting to six points on a bull moose, still had to do a double take when I saw the picture. Congrats to you!
