Early Archery hunt in the Boundary area

Just returned from a week of bow hunting in southern BC
Four of us stopped at several spots from Rock Creek to Princeton looking for deer and sign
Deer were very scarce and only old sign was located
ive hunted at all of the places in the past later in the season and I saw a lot of deer
is this a wintering area with deer moving in later in the year
or have the larger deer numbers of the past disappeared from this area?
Any help would be appreciated

There are deer in the area, lots of them. They do come through in greater numbers later on and they also winter in there, but I hunt the area and there are plenty of deer. The mulies numbers are down in that region but lots of whities.

Weather is warm, lots still up high - lots of water still and grasses are green. Nothing making them move down lower yet.
