Seeing as this is only my second year of hunting, I thought I would set a goal for myself. Curious is anyone else has any realistic hunting goals for this season? New areas to try, species to hunt, accuracy at a longer distance?

Ive never had a successful hunt, so my goal is to bring home a grouse (i know, lofty goal but a guys gotta start somewhere). Bought a .22 this year so I actually have the means to do it, my30 06 is a little big for hunting the little birds ;)

Get out more than last year (which wasn't bad). Spend enough time with buddies that I don't feel like I've missed them a lot by next July.

Call in a moose, and even better, call in more than one and have the option to pick the big guy and let the little guy go.

Get a bigger bear than the last one, and do it with a good stalk vs. just shooting one I run across on the road.

Get a nice muley in the rut with some snow on the ground in an area I've hunted a lot before and that I like.

Get any whitetail in a new area. Haven't hunted whiteys a lot.

Last year I wanted a 4 point or better mulie, ended up with a 4x4 and 4x3.

This year I'm going for a bigger mulie buck than last year, my first bow kill, and my first moose. Fingers crossed.

Kill something and eat it.

Although this is my third year hunting, I haven't been successful as far as getting something to eat yet. I've still had some nice time in the woods so it's been a little successful each time anyways.

I feel like I'm already having some more success this year just because I'm starting to see the signs easier on the scouting trips I've taken this year, but it's always a nice walk in the woods. ;)

God I feel sorry for you guys. My goal is to get my 2 deer like I have always for the last 20 years. I have not even hunted this first day or 2 because it`s the weekend and everybody is out there. Too lazy to pack out an elk. Move to the E.K. and hunt. Gods country.

My goal is to not work so much and get out hunting more so I can use the tent and stove I bought this summer.

and to get up to Williston Lake on a treasure hunt.

I'd like to score a moose and/or a couple deer.

will only shoot a black bear if it's a trophy size

Really could use a meat moose or elk this year. Just need the time to do it.
Hopefully be able to do a little hunting with my daughter this year. She hasn't been able to get out much the last few years.

My goals for this year are to drop all my assumptions and preconceived ideas of what deer will do and as Bruce Lee says "be like water", flow with what ever will happen.

I have 4 tags, if I can cut one I'll be satisfied, if I cut 2 I'll be real happy and anything beyond that would be gravy. Hoping to take a 4 or 5 day weekend next weekend and maybe hunt both goat and elk but we'll see, have had a hard time evading work long enough to even get a two day weekend for the past month and a half.

Remember that just getting out, enjoying yourself and learning is a success;)....my goals are to get my first elk or moose, have no LEH so not as easy, and get a nice fat muley....getting good at the WT's, but the muleys I need to focus more on this year..

My goal this year is my first bull elk, which i've put in countless hours practicing calling. My first moose for my first moose draw and make time for a weekend for grouse only and take a break from hunting to enjoy the coho run here which I completely neglected last year.

4 point muley, call in a moose, get my first elk, and find the time to get out and hunt more this year.

Well after spending a ton of time out last year and a ton of scouting already this year, I'd like to take a ram outta 3-17. But you said realistic, so realistically, slim chance even with a ton of effort. But sure as heck gonna try. Like to fill my grizz tag for 7-04 as well.

Well got my black bear already this fall, so I guess a 3x3 mulie would suffice

Hoping that my pain subsides tis season, so that I can..
1)get out more often.
2)not wince at every step I take, and be able to just enjoy the scenery.
3)hope I see some Elk in the EK this season.

Other than that, it doesn't matter as long as the rest of the gang I hunt with are healthy and happy....
And we can share some more laughs.....

Isn't that what it is really about???
Oh ya.....be less competitive.....but that is an age thing I suppose.

Hope you all obtain your goals.

Great idea for a thread.
Theoretically I can harvest:
3 deer
2 bears
Bull moose (LEH draw!)

I'd be happy with the moose alone.
Barring that, bear and a Bambi.
Good luck out there!

I am going get a Region 2 blacktail buck.

Every year I have said I "want" to get a blacktail buck.

This is year #4. I am going to get a blacktail buck, 100%. There is no doubt in my mind, nor are there any other possible outcomes. It is going to happen up close in the timber, within 30 yards.

Stay tuned.

Earlier this year I said 1st a stone, 2nd a northern goat and 3rd a good whitie (species specific goals only ATM). I was eating number 2 Saturday night and will continue being a weekend warrior for the ram. Saving the whitie for November.
