I know what its like hikeing distance in wet buck brush loaded, covering it with fresh wet snow I'm thinking nightmare, especially with the distances you were undoubtably dealing with{soaked to the eyeballs!}.Drive and youth will take one a long ways..you have both K
congrates on another start to a great season

Okay guys not sure how to start this story..

But I will say 8 years ago when I worked with takla I was a single man and my dad and I each harvested bulls in this spot plus or minus a couple km.

This year I lost my grandmother and built my parents home, bought a small farm and got occupancy on a large job needless to say pre planning was poor.

In my search for new projects I signed a contract with my boss over some beers with some wealthy land owners as we where walking back my boss asked me if I would look at some land in fort nelson.
my wheels turned and I agrred but stated once I drive there I wouldn't return until I had a bull..having been there I felt I had hi odds on a moose, elk,or caribou and would play it opertunistic.

Okay so the day finally came to head north I kissed the wife and kids and I was off on a solo adventure and a little work.

After driving through the night I met a man outside chetwynd who advised me I had a 20minute delay.I said no problem and next thing you know we are exchanging hunting info and he said he was off work in a week and would be hunting solo out of fort nelson aswell. (I gave him my number ND off I went.) Key point.

I drove past family houses in chetwynd seemed sleepy so I kept going to fort st john...
in fort st john I went to the recipient center had a quick shower and reviewed my rig.

Deciding I didn't like the way my tires where wearing I went to Canadian tire for some new rubber.

When the truck made it to the shop floor after some haggling this very unconfident man started a 50 point inspection adding fluids and messing around I asked him to stop and just mount the rubber.

A quick call to dad and I was on the highway after about 12km I was feeling a lose of power and almost got rearended by a gas truck I pulled over my break where so hot they where smoking and I resized I had a problem...I sent a message on hbc as I had no friends in the area and help was on the way.. (awesome guys)

After bleeding the breaks and a couple drives and a cold sleep on the side of a lease trail I was on my way.

I finnAly arrived in fort nelson got my work done and reviewed my gear and bought some Uber expensive needed supplies. .as I headed west I fay dreamed of big bulls and adventure.
I had predetermined I would camp at hunter camp sites as I was solo in a tent for support.after a lot of driving with the rivers blown out in the rain.I decided on going back to a provincial sOTE for the night as there's people around and would make a game plan in the am..as I was heading back I glassed a tropy elk cow moose and a big ass bull caribou..alright this is going to be a good week.

I arrived at the cMp ground covered in brea oil road dust and sweaty balls.I decided to go fo a quick swim and then set up camp.. I could not find my short or towel so I just went in..

As I was coming out beautiful women greeted me with a towel aND whisky I was like it oh.

The women helped me make camp and I asked what are you doing here..they said yoga in the rockies and we made you dinner..

The path gets dark after that but in the morning I was after caribou in the snow..I unfortunately had a hard time I'd there antlers and kept scaring them.
upon return I pulled camp and went to my dad and I sight and made camp so I had trees after all the rain
the rain did not stop so I hunted the seirra..many close calls but no moose down any bull season over I went after bou..the whole time checking on a fully rutted elk I had located but wouldnt open tell the 5th..

Sept 1st found me in my tent at noon really cold and still fogged in I could not alpine hunt ad visibility was poor..

I ate some lunch and decided I am not going to get one moping in my tent.

The hike.

I double checked my pack took a compass reading and headed for where my dad and I had harvested before. 20 min into my hike I start to see bou everywhere but with the snow and rain neither the sheep or bou where easy to I'd.
Hours later and many km later I saw a herd of 20 thinking they may be the group I already checked I head away from there to see if the other herd was near where I last saw the as I skyline I saw racks many of them..so I belly crawled in the snow until I was 40yds the biggest bull was 40 yds and had 4 back points and no middle tine. Shot back to the other group.as I made my stalk there where bou every where I snuck into 100 yds of 20 bulls by using a revinew. There was no obvious legal bulls but some that where close and in the foggy snow storm I just could not be sure...

I soon realized I was hours and kms into the deep.I starTed to high tail it to camp and the wind gust where so cold I was loosing feeling in my feet and daylight.
I contemplated staying in the valley bottom to get out of the wind but being solo I decided to skyline for vantage point.

09-15-2016, 11:19 PM
As I rushed down the ridge busting my trail through blueberry I a came to a vantage point I saw a cow and calf and said to myself no matter what I am not shooting..I am to cold wet and deep.

20 yard later I saw him a big bull just feeding away unaware of me..

I set my pack down for a rest and took a look.
my scope was so messed up I couldn't see anything but with the naked eye at 300 yds I could count points no problem...I then remembered the wife had bought me a scope cleaning kit and it was in my pack.

I doug it out and cleaned my scope when I restyled the bull was drifting in and out of site in the fog..I calmly chambered a round and waited to see him..when he repaired well rested and calm I set the trigger and touched off..

The bull react and did a twenty yard circle as I rechambered I my scope refoggef.
