do it yourself. very easy. google and lots of youtube vids to guide you through it. paying a taxidermist like i did once was a waste of money.

congratulations, I posted on your Dads thread.
Euro mounts are something you can do, look on YouTube and give it a try.
Or have a taxidermist do it.

As mentioned, there are some great videos on DIY euro mounts. Don't pay someone to do it, save your taxidermist money for a future shoulder mount or bear rug.

Take the money that you were gonna pay for the Euro mount, and put it in a savings account for down the road when you shoot an absolute toad and want a shoulder mount. I've done 4 Euro mounts for myself now, they're easy and inexpensive. Will post pics when I get home tonight. You basically skin the head, boil, pick, and repeat until its clean and then use a whitener on the skull.
Congrats on the buck!

Watch this guy's videos and then get at it yourself. You can pick up Hydrogen Peroxide at most hydroponic garden stores for about $20 for a 4 litre jug. You'll use a litre tops.

I've done quite a few this way and it works great. Good luck and post the finished pics.

Do it yourself. If you have the space and time this is by far the most professional method aside from beetles. I do my Euro's this way, its called Maceration.

My user Profile pic shows the buck I used this process on before whitening.

Hey Nick1G.

That's a very nice buck you got there. Congratulations!

I have a total of 4 or 5 Euro Mounts, I have used 2 different methods each giving an end result.

Like already mentioned the 1st method is boiling the skull.
This can be done with all the meat and hide on, the hide and meat comes off very easy once the head has been boiled for a while.
The key is to have the skull boiling at a low simmer, not too hot, I have cooked the meat to the bone having it too hot which makes the meat difficult to pick off.
Boiling allows for a quick end result. In my opinion the end prroduct is OK.

The 2nd method is letting the skull rot in water once it has been skinned and fleshed.
I recommend obtaining a used Fish Tank Heater to keep the water warm to speed up the process.
I'm gonna tell you this method requires a strong stomach, it's pretty gross, but the end result is much better.
The bacteria eats meat from every little nook and cranny and bones that are typically damaged picking meat off using the boiling method are left intact.
I should also mention this method takes much longer than boiling, weeks longer.
Change 1/2 your water about once every week and gently pull, scrape or pick the meat off the skull.
Once all the meat is consumed by the bacteria soak the skull in a strong solution of Dawn dish detergent to draw out the fat from the skull.

Like mentioned you can then apply Hydrogen Peroxide to the skull to whiten it.
I prefer just leaving the skull natural, it comes out with a very light off white color, personal preference.

My buddy shot a Whitetail last year in velvet, he stripped the velvet and lightly stained the antlers, turned out nice.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Nice Buck bud.

I got mine done by the bone zone in Victoria. Dropped off a frozen head, picked up an awesome mount a week or two later. It was cheap, and my house didn't stink from the process at all!
