Years ago i was youth deer hunting around kammy...sept.1..any deer,,,,but grouse opening was....still is10of sep..
We saw lots of grouse..but not allowed to shoot..that was downside of my sons hunting trip..
Well we got his dow ,but really miss those chickens...
Is 1st of sep,,too early for grouse...not for my opinions..;)

You've got it all bass ackwards. Grouse open sept 1 and deer open sept 10. Unless you use sharp sticks, then it's August 20 and 25th.

and my experience suggests they go into the witless protection program (tailored specifically for "fool hens") around 9pm August 19th.

Sept 1 opening in the north... not sure why they can't align things better down south. The birds likely start nesting earlier down there, so the young will be older/bigger in Kamloops on Sept 1 than they would be around here. Of course, I don't even bother hunting them here until late September...

Just burn down to 8. My boy was able to take 4. And could have limited out, but after the last covey refused to flush even after 2 of the 6 of them were down I told him to stop...Even after he ran at them they never did flush.
