was just made aware of a reg change where you have to leave the deer tail on , unskinned. wasn't sure if this was already posted

I missed that one - guess I'll have to look over the regs again. Is that province wide?

For all those people I've seen hunting those special whitetail doe's that have a big white butt patch and a black tip on the tail.

Only for does. From my understanding

the hybrids. 2 years ago I saw a white tail buck with muley horns.

(2) For deer:(a)If the animal is male(i) that portion of the head whichbears the antlers, OR(ii) the unskinned tail and either atesticle or part of the penis.(b) If the animal is female(i) that portion of the head whichin males normally bears antlers,OR a portion of the udder andteats, AND(ii) the unskinned tail.

so if you take the head off better leave the tail on AND testes/penis

just skin the tail down i tiny bit and put a plastic bag around it then a bit of duct tape...when ready to butcher it you just cut it off and chuck it out...its what we have always done to keep a fur patch on a deer

So if I was alpine hunting mulies with the intention to (debone) quarter the animal to pack out... I could just cut off the top of its skull with the antlers (crown/euro mount) instead of leaving the tail on? Or would I have to do that and leave the testes/penis attached to buckys hind quarter?

Good question. I interpret it as one other the other

I interpret it that way as well. Skull with antlers and testes/penis or tail and testes/penis.

No, I think it is skull or testis/penis and tail. I'd leave some fur as well with the skull.

So either some skull and antlers or the cock and balls

antlers detached from the carcass are not proof of sex, i.e. leave evidence attached to one quarter.

Either the head, or testicle/penis And tail, or for female, the head or udder teats AND tail. Note the "AND's". Seems straightforward, and is also news to me

(2) For deer a)If the animal is male(i) that portion of the head which bears the antlers, OR(ii) the unskinned tail AND either a testicle or part of the penis.(b) If the animal is female(i) that portion of the head which in males normally bears antlers,OR a portion of the udder and teats, AND(ii) the unskinned tail.

Is it even possible to leave the unskinned tail on a hind quarter using the gutless method?

I never understand why people seems to get all confused over what or what not to do.

WHEN IN DOUBT, DO IT ALL!

It never hurts to be thorough, and that way your butt is covered. It's easy to remove those parts once at the butchers.

Simple enough if your taking out a deer whole, just seems like it may be a problem if you plan to do gutless method. Since a person would be removing the head from the body you would want to keep evidence of sex on a quarter, which according to the new regs would require a testicle or penis and the unskinned tail. I'm just failing to see how you keep the tail on the quarter.
