So, it is that time of year again that the fall bear season is here. I was wondering what are people's thoughts around bears close to town (aka Garbage bears) as hunt able? Do people risk hunting them for food consumption? Vancouverites or from the valley need not comment...:-P

Also, what is considered far enough from town to hunt a bear. I personally feel if I am 10miles as the crow flies, that is good enough.

Nothing like a roast off of a pampers fed bear. I think 10k would be plenty. Most town bears this time of year will just be into fruit anyways.

I always target bears according to the food source, spring bears for grass and clover and fall bears for berries and away from fish.

I shot a real nice black bear a few years back in a river valley. Turns out he was into the fish pretty bad. I think he must have been rolling in them or something. Smelled like rotten fish from 20 ft away. I don't hunt bears in that area anymore. He was about 2 or 3 km from the river.

We actually took a small one today right outside of town. With the bumper crop of berries this year it should be a good one

Ten km seems reasonable. They can really cover ground but if you take a berry eating alpine bear ten km from a town or refuse site I don't think he would have been feeding on human garbage.
