Found this today while out working. This area is known for its moose, not elk, but it seems they have moved in. Found this and another one about 500 m down the road.......

Also noted that the there was some gold in the hills....the season is starting to change...

Time to get the lead out of your ass and boots on the ground.....

Mind my inexperience related to that evidence, but how do you tell the difference between a moose and an elk rub?????

Harry

The tracks, the timing (my trail cams are showing hard horned elk and velvet moose), the height the rubs were (elk are chest height and higher and moose tend to be lower) and usually, but not always, moose will do more rubbing on clumps of brush to allow the whole antler to rub and resonate with the "hollow" like sound, where elk like to destroy the brush.

But the tracks gave it away as well as the other rub was a pine tree about 8' tall and destroyed.

Hey Sitkaspruce

Thanks for posting up the great rub shots ! Not to take away from Sitkas thread but I'm wondering if anyone could post up a good side by side comparison of Bull Moose and Bull Elk tracks. Northern mentioned to look at the tracks that accompany the rubs. From what I have looked at it seems that the Elk track is more rounded and pointed at the far end of the track. Moose not so much, have more of straight look to them. Am I right about this ? I have seen lot's of moose tracks but no elk .
Thanks

Have been seeing rubs in the mid-island area also.
