I want to put an in-line filter between the primer bubble and the outboard motor. Is there any problems with this?
I have never seen anyone do it before.

Thank you

We always used a racor mounted on the transom for any of our outboards.

No problems if you just want a simple inline. Use one with a clear housing, you can see if gunk is building up.

A spin-on water separating fuel filter is worth the $40 it takes to install if you want a little better filter setup.

I see them on the governments boats up for auction.
Great idea.

I've got one installed on my Yami 90 2 stroke, on recommendation from the marine shop I use. . Change it every year or so.

I don't think between the primer ball and the motor is a good place, any water debris is going to be forced through the filter, where if it's before the primer ball it will hold crap back. Just because someone saw it on a government boat doesent make it the smartest idea....my 2 cents

lip_ripper00,
Wouldn't there be the same force(pulling through the filter, or pushing through the filter) whether it is before or after the primer bubble???? Am I missing something?

Their is a one way check valve in the primer ball

I read this wrong when I replied - mine is installed before the primer bulb, not between the bulb and motor. Sorry for the confusion.

I put one in today, before the prime bubble. We'll see if it works tomorrow

I guess this means you decided against running your 12' (or was it 14'?) alum. boat in the chuck.

Or did you just plunk a 90hp on it?
