What coolers do you guys run and what size? I can't afford a Yeti, Grizzly or Orion so leaning more towards a Coleman or Igloo. Thoughts?

Coleman Marine Extreme 6 day. I paid $220 each for my big 150 quart coolers and couldn't be happier.

I think the cooler market has been impacted much like the rest of the hunting market, with marketing/sponsors overhyping overpriced items. Yeti, Orion, and all the others likely make decent coolers but youtube quickly dismisses their value over coleman and some of the trusted 'tried and true' companies.

I have kind of the same idea in regards to insulating a cheaper cooler. 150 Q Coleman with a cover I made out of foil faced insulation material and alluminum tape. The finished cover fits over the cooler and a cooler full of ice lasts a week no problem. We have had a covered cooler next to a uncovered Coleman and after 5 days there is no comparison. The idea above works but the insulation takes up room inside the cooler and gets scungy with a bunch of fish in there making clean up harder at the end of the trip.

Costco has the 150 Q Coleman on sale quite often for $100 making it a good buy.

Ohwildon - I saw that post, and really liked what you did with your cooler and the foam. Was thinking I might get a bigger cooler then I had planned and do something similar.

Fuzzybiscuit- do you happen to have a picture of your setup? Sounds like a great method.

Ozark trail coolers from Walmart are supposed to be the bees pajamas, but I haven't been able to find them in a Canadian store.

Coleman xtreme. Keeps ice for 5 days for me as long as the wofe doesnt open and close the lid a million times. A chunk of dry ice goes a long way as well.

Sorry, cooler is sitting at my parents on the Island. They are lets say, technologically challenged, so asking for them to send a pic would be more trouble than it's worth.

The foam is removable, thus easily cleaned after each trip..

Apartment freezer. You can get a 5 cu ft for 200 bucks. If you have a gen flash it up. If you have power plug it in. We use one on our fishing trips to the Island. Works great and if plugged in the night before you travel with a unit that's way better than a cooler.

Rigged up my Igloo 128 cooler after seeing Ohwildon's original post ..I also did the bottom..Did this to 2 coolers ..We went to Terrace salmon fishing and I filled the coolers with Block ice that I froze at home..Long story short we were gone 10 days and I still had ice for the fish ..Only needed to buy 4 bags of crushed ice for the trip home...The foam only cost me $ 32.00...I saved money for not having to buy ice ....only the 4 bags of crush..This idea is brilliant and I would like to thank you Ohwildon ...This will last for years and I hardly had any cleanup as I vacuum sealed the sockeye salmon we caught ...Vacuum sealing cuts out the bacteria and on ice they keep very well...Dennis

This.

We bought a costco freezer for $199 and a used generator for $450. We are on day 5 and still have enough ice for beverages and stuff that is meant to be frozen is still frozen solid. We have a bunch of water bottles that we rotate in and out of the cooler. I'll never go back to trying to bring enough ice to keep some things frozen and some things cold.

To be honest I never thought of the 5cu ft freezer...I have the gen set a 2800 yamaha that would power it ...Great idea if one has the room...Going fishing this is great but for hunting ..no room ...every inch of space is spoken for..Thanks for the ideas...Dennis

Vinegar jugs cleaned out good and filled 2/3 full then frozen make good ice blocks for coolers.. Nice and slim in size.. and double up as drinking water as they thaw out also.
