Just picked up my first brand new toy ! 2016 Yamaha Kodiak 700. Will be using it to do some snow plowing for work at a contract site if we ever get some snow in the lower mainland. Still had to make sure I had it for before hunting season 👌😃 just curious how people travel and hunt when they have a dog , as apposed to running behind the atv. I have a 1 year old boxer who is super well behaved but has a mind of his own when it comes to squirrels.... I keep him on a long leash just for reassurance when out in the bush. All ideas welcome and happy hunting!

mine rides in a similar rear box as shown above when the girls not there, or costco and moose industries sells a expanded metal basket for the front rack that my dog lays in perfectly.

Mine just rides on the back. Bought a cheap soft bag for the back and she sits on that.

If it is wet or cold, she wears a neoprene vest. She sits back there and sticks her head under my arm if she wants to see where we are going. Been this way for 7 years and no complaints so far!!!

Cheers

I've have a piece of ply wood with a 8" back lip all covered in carpet. give the pooch lots of room and good grip...and inexpensive to build.

https://dustydawgs.com/ I bought one of these 8 years ago for our large sized golden doodle. Works like a charm. A little expensive to get out of the States, but I am very happy with it.

We use ratchet straps and tie a kennel on the back of the side by side. No reason it wouldn't work on the quad.

Those dustydawgs are interesting - have 2 dogs that we'd love to take along but don't have enough trust in them to stay sitting behind us.
These things just might work.

My dog Buckley is my favourite bear hunting partner. He's getting pretty old now, and this was his last hunt. I built a box for the back of my quad that he could hop up and ride along. The quad is pretty loaded down in this pic. Buckley's in his seat and I have a quartered bear and gear on the front. Really sucked having to leave him at home this year.

Mine generally wants to ride, but that's because I generally make her run. If I do she sleeps better in the tent. We just did a 40 km run a couple weekends ago. Works great.

If I want to rip or she's tired we've got the extra seat/cargo box set up. She can curl up there, behind my wife, and can't really fall out. Most of the time we're going dog trot speed anyway.

Thanks for all the good ideas !! I like the idea of having something full enclosed for reassurance especially with a boxer who's very high energy. Will try and get some pics up as I build !
happy hunting

Just a tip for guys running their dogs behind the quads; give them a little while to warm up. My dog used to come mountain biking with us, and our "slow" was pretty fast for him, going to a full run without a chance to limber up was pointed out as a likely cause of his blown out knee. $4500 later, and he'll still never be as active as he once was.

My dog Jake rides on a cushion on the front rack. When it gets cold I have a blanket which covers him to keep him warm.

I have a jacket for him I'm sure will get lots of use now. Should be plenty warm in September still though

This is a crappy picture of the dog box I built (filled with elk in this pic). It's open at the front, and is really secure for my dog. It's mounted to my rack with U-bolts.

Wicked I'm doing pretty much the exact same but wire mesh all around a wooden frame. Will potentially add plywood outside when the cold hits for our leh in November.
