It is that time of year ..... and I know what its like to be in the mountains like many others are right now, some with opening day success and many more fighting anticipation of the morning dawn only 4-5 hrs away. Some will go home with heavy packs and big smiles and many more will have light packs with miles of boot leather left behind and another chapter to their journey as sheep hunters.

SSS, bighornbob and Calvin L spent the other night as I fueled them up with a beer or two as we talked of the anticipation and excitement of their hunt! I wished I could have joined them as packer and the excitement of sheep hunting. (alright - its killing me) Knowing where their tents are perched, I can only imagine what it took to get there and the anticipation of what they will see over the next 10 days. We poured over the maps, discussed strategy, narrowed out most likely places where the sheep will be. They're going to have a great hunt!!

Sheep guys know what its like but a couple photo's to fuel dreams of high places!!

Couple pics

Wonderful!

Although my new business has enhanced my life in many ways, the worst part of it is that I will probably not get the opportunity to hunt in August or September in the near future. I take solace in knowing that October and November I will be completely free to hunt, but there is nothing better than the mountains in Aug/Sept.

I am very happy for them, but also very envious :)

Good luck to all the hunters this year!

Great pics. My partner is on the mountain, I'm having fun fishing but can't wait to get back every day and check email for the spot/ram down message. Pretty much all I think about between bites...
Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Hopefully there's on left in the hills by September for me. It sucks being a junior guy at work, hard to get prime early August vacation. One of these years I'll get to hunt the opener again.

The one picture of the frost on the close up tent brings chills to my spine as I think of the north. Nothing quite like it.

I think every sheep hunter has mountains in their blood, best feeling ever, up there, above the world...

Out a couple days early. Looking at the forecast we have no regrets. No tags cut but we had an awesome time! Piles of animals seen with some very close encounters.

Wasn't the same without you, Rams. Could have used your never give up gritty edge. But none the less we kept up the don't have to cut a tag to have a great time attitude.

My partner ended up killing a beautiful 12 year old ram with a broken tip on the opener. An amazing adventure into the high country with nothing but highs and lows for the whole trip. I am already planning next years season, to do it all over again this time with hopes for myself to just take one more of the most beautiful creatures on Gods green alpine....Stone`s sheep, and all the memories that this undertaking entails!
