Where in the regs does it say the amount of animal I have to pack out? Page number please. I'm doing my first alpine hike in trip in September and I'm having troubles finding it in the regs.

Regs state all EDIBLE portions. It is the hunters discretion to decide what is still edible after the animal has been skinned/quartered.

From pg. 3 of 2016-2018 synopsis:

Edible Portions ; " with respect to big game, excluding grizzly bear, cougar, wolf, lynx, bobcat and wolverine, means the edible portions of the four quarters and the loins of the animal and with respect to game birds, means the edible portions of both breasts of the bird.'

From page 5 , a portion of para 37 of the 2016-2018 Synopsis:

"A person who kills wildlife is exemptedfrom the requirement to remove the edible portions if that person transfers possession of the wildlife to a recipient who complies with the requirement. Edible portions do not include meat that has been damaged and made inedible by the method of taking."

Perfect! Thanks. Also as far as I have found you don't have to pack out hide on deer or black bears right? Is this correct?

Not unless you want to eat it.. You have to satisfy sex and species identification though.

So does the rib meat fall into the edible portion? If you've ever purchased a quarter of a cow, the ribs come attached to the front quarter.

So does the rib meat fall into the edible portion? If you've ever purchased a quarter of a cow, the ribs come attached to the front quarter. I just searched through the wildlife act and there is no reference or definition for "quarter". Can't find that in the synopsis either.

I was always of the impression that quarters included rib meat as well and we always remove what's not shot up.
