Hey All, We're getting ready to head to Haida Gwaii for some fishing and deer hunting in August. Anyone got any recent info on the road to Rennel Sound?

We've been a couple times before and the deer hunting is perfect for beginners/kids. There is lots of opportunity and you can fit quite a few in a big cooler. My eleven year old has been hoping to take her first deer with the Tikka T3 Lite .243:

Her little hands make that .243 cartridge look like a 300 ultra mag! Great video. Good luck. .243 is an awesome gun for small deer.

Just got back. Deer everywhere with nice velvety horns. I didn't get out to rennel sound though. Hope she bags her limit. I would like to try it one year.

That trip sounds great.

I hunted Haida Gwaii back in February and at that time the road to Rennell sound was in very good condition all the way to Bonanza beach/Gregory Beach. Once past those two areas the road is much less travelled and has a few de-activations cut into it, one of which is a bit tricky to pass as it's on hill and in a bit of sand/loose rock. But, if you have a truck/quad with decent ground clearance and a good 4wheel drive (locker) you can pass with little trouble.

Have fun, enjoy!

Thanks for the road report, much appreciated. And thanks to you all for the nice feedback on the video, we'll be sure to post a video of our adventures out there.

The locals are still working on the legal battle regarding the deactivation of the road that leads to Rennel Sound, and Clapp Basin. Sounds like it may come to a conclusion in the near future. Here's hoping....

What better Birthday gift than Ammo"!!! And a tip to all shooters out there, young and old, note the young lady's trigger finger, it's no where's near the trigger, not even resting on the trigger guard until she's ready to fire! Great video, and looking forward to watching her bag a buck this fall!
