Just wondering if anyone had any experience hunting at the head of Powell Lake? Been up there a few times during the summer, never in the fall. I'm heading up in a week and a bit to do little scouting. Any pointers?

Had it two years ago. Get in early before those elk get chased back into the valleys. And bring good rain gear. Real good rain gear.

I know what you mean about rain gear I spent my teen years there and to quote Forest Gump "I didn't know there were that many types of rain". Did you happen to cut you tag?

Been up there several times quadding around for grouse deer and spring black bears. I've seen elk in a lot of different places but the one spot I've seen them most was up the daniels where there was a big slide a few years back. If you've been up there at all you know where I mean. It looks like a little lake at the base of the slide, between there and the road is where I've seen them most. Last year I noticed someone had a game camera hung right at the side of the road there. Good luck with your hunt. Jim

Thanks Jim I'm going to be up there in about a week and a half, my in-laws have a cabin on the lake will definitely be doing some scouting around. How'd you get your quad in there?

Here is a pjc of the slide I was talking about and a pic of some elk at that spot. We had actually been parked there a few minutes having lunch when I noticed a head poke up from where they were bedded down and then one by one they started standing up and filing into the timber. counted at least 28 in that group.

Boat or barge is the only way to get your quads in there.

I had a similar incident up Olsen valley. Me and the fam walked in and had stopped for a snack. my wife was looking at a slash and notices a big tan thing. Then on by one they all started moving out of the slash. not quite 28 though.

The boat is mine but the deer belongs to a buddy that went with me that weekend. I still have not seen a buck up there and actually only a few does.

Nice buck. I've never had much luck for deer on the coast they're pretty sneeky. You have the ultimate coastal set up, very jealous.
