Is it a really big black bear or a grizzly?
What are your thoughts??

Hmm I am not very good at identifying bears based on a still picture... especially this one (I get around 80% on those online tests which is pretty bad) They all seem to look like they have a hump when leaning over and eating, just some more than others. Ears make me want to say grizz or big black blear. Facial profile makes me want to say black bear. Claws not visible as with most cases. Overall I would want to guess big mature black bear if not for monasheemountainman's post lol

I would have to watch it and see if from different angles. Holding my fire ;-P

Grizz. Looks like a sow to me... A little tough to tell though with the lighting. Anyone else?

first instinct was grizz. Then considering that it looks nearly like a cut and paste from the picture 'wideopenthrottle' posted..... definitely grizz.

Hmm I'm just not seeing a very distinct hump or that dished facial profile. I see a bear with it's head down to the ground almost vertical, which might give both of these impressions. The face appears longer to me especially if I picture it with it's head angled straight forward. Big black bears often appear to have smaller/rounder ears. I don't know how you guys can call it. Not saying anyone is wrong... just frustrated I can't call it... mind wants to play devils advocate.

Is anyone sure enough to shoot (assuming you only have a grizz tag and it was actually legal light lol) I'd have to observe it longer, watching it move around and see different angles to rule out possible deceptions.

The face is dished. Def grizz, don't be frustrated it's a night pic too, if you saw in the day you would know for sure

I think it's a small grizz. The face has the dished profile, the ears are short and round, and the rump is flat, not rounded like black bears. The hump might not be as pronounced as it could be because the bear looks like it's hunched up a bit, which would bring the back up higher than normal.

And please don't tell me that is a grizz or I am going to stop shooting bears entirely lol

Thanks man. I feel a bit better. I do get kind of frustrated being so uncertain and for others it comes so easy. I just edited my post to include a vid of a black bear that appears to look like a grizz for a couple seconds here and there if it helps show where I am coming from.

Here's a different angle!
I guess so far the consensus seems to be grizzly.
I'm mostly convinced...

Lol great thread BCHunterFSJ. I still can't call it 30/70% let alone 100%. Lots of guys here with tons of experience say grizzly so based on that I think you got yourself a trailcam grizz.
