Dug up my skull a few weeks ago and now it's on the shelf. The bear was from May 2015. Surprised to see the infection on his mandible. Looks like it happened some time ago and bone growth was really affected.

I recovered one several weeks after shooting it. Nature did a reasonable job cleaning it, but it was missing a few smaller teeth and chewed on by various critters. Recently glued it back together and it looks decent, but it has spots with decay/pitting similar to the mandible on yours. My untrained eye can't make out the difference in bone growth you mentioned. It is possible that is postmortem and caused by some kind of micro-organism as a result of being buried?

I recently did up one that I simmered for several hours and soaked for two weeks, changing water and picking off tissue every other day. It looks a lot better than the other one I recovered... that said it wasn't head shot and chewed on by critters :)

Very cool to see the play-by-play pics as yamadirt 426 said and x2 on the thanks for sharing. Great post.

Nice job. That must have been one ornery bear at some point. And nice dental work. Do you do house calls?

C'mon ... how come? How much does a fellow need and where do you get it and how much does it cost? Thanx in advance ...
