RECREATIONAL - Salmon

Subject:
FN0534-Recreational - Salmon: Chinook - Area 19 and 20 - 2016 Zone 1 Management Actions

Further to FN0523, the Department will be managing fisheries based on
management zone 1 (i.e. returns to the Fraser below or equal to 45,000 chinook)
for Fraser Spring 5-2 and Summer 5-2 chinook.

Effective Dates: 00:01 hours June 18 until 23:59 hours July 15, 2016

Waters: Subareas 19-1 to 19-4 and Subareas 20-4 and 20-5

Management Measures: The daily limit is two (2) chinook which must be either
wild or hatchery-marked if between 45 and 85 cm or hatchery marked if greater
than 85 cm.

The minimum size limit for chinook salmon in these waters is 45 cm.

Variation order 2016-276

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the voluntary Salmon Sport Head
Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped
chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical
information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head
Recovery Program at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Rockfish Conservation Areas that are currently in effect and are closed to all
fin fishing. Descriptions of these closures, and other recreational fishing
information, can be found on the Internet at:

www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish

Did you witness suspicious fishing activity or a violation? If so, please call
the Fisheries and Ocean Canada 24-hour toll free Observe, Record, Report line

Their last few messages say low stock return, yet they open it for the next month with the usual slot size??

Very few fish going by, but this makes no sense??

Ya I am not sure, for my region this is what I found for today:

Region 3 - Thompson-Nicola This table refers to fishing for salmon only. For information on other species please refer to the B.C. Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/synopsis.html).
There is no fishing for salmon in Region 3 except for the opportunities listed in the table below.
Please read these regulations in conjunction with the B.C. Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/synopsis.html).
September 23, 2015: Please note that all salmon fishing is closed in Region 3 for the season. The dates and times listed below reflect possible 2016 chinook fisheries. This page will be updated June 2016 to reflect actual fishing opportunities for that year based on in-season information.

Note:

Fishing for salmon in Region 3 is during daylight hours only.
All retained chinook and sockeye must measure 30 cm or more from tip of nose to fork in tail.
An “adult chinook” in Region 3 is defined as being a chinook over 50 cm in size (fork length).

So, nothing open up here yet. Last year, they opened it around this time, so not sure if it will be open around this time again.

I agree that it is b.s. but before everyone goes off it looks like this Notice applies to Areas 19 and 20. That would be the southern tip if the Island from Victoria West. There will be some American fish in those waters to so not all are headed for the Fraser.
