It's a very light brown phase bear. Pretty cool looking, it was photographed on one of the golf courses.

Have encountered bears of that colouration around Sugar Lake many years ago. One sow had three cubs, one black, one chocolate and one of that blond colour.

Only ever seen 1 bear in that phase, blonde?, and it was a cub that we treed beside a road near Whatshan lake in the early 90's.
Spent countless days since hunting for the 6 foot plus version.....:D

The "spirit bear" comments on Facebook are out of control, apparently this bear needs to protected from hunters because its a miracle.

Yeah, the Fairmont Whistler golf course is a very popular hunting destination. :)

Where instead of "four!" You often hear the cry of "fire in the hole!" As a BMV drives off with your wife in the passenger seat...

The whole LML could be included into the Great Bear Rainforest. The bleeding hearts can then all walk to work and dodge the BooBoos on their way.

Cinnamon phase black bear.

Do all cubs look so light and then darken, or is this just an extremely light cinnamon phase?

Gateholio

I would say it's very light to begin with. I assume it will darken with age but I guess we will see next year.

It might start off light and darken a bit more as it matures, but it should remain a cinnamon phase throughout it's life. Some cinnamons are very light. And this is not a spirit bear, albino or Kermode, etc... Just a light colour phase black. I've only seen 3 or 4 and one was quite light brown in colour (and NOT a griz).

5-6 years ago we had a black sow with three cubs in the backyard, One was black and the other two were white. And yes we do have pictures.
They became a nuisance and were trapped and relocated. Well within a week or so they showed up and had to be trapped
again. One white cub now lives in the Calgary zoo, what happened to the other two after they were released in the wild is anybody's guess.
The one that lives in the zoo was the trouble maker, that's why it lives in the zoo.
When my son saw them , his remark was, Look at that, a rug with matching pillow cases !!
