Well today was a day we won't soon forget. The object was to get my son his first critter. And as some of you know, my little operation a week past, grounded me from shooting for 6 weeks. So we brought my hunting buddy along for back up.

We leave nice and early, with a short stop a Hubs to do the LEH thing, then we're off. We arrive at our little area and the two shooters unlock the boom sticks. 3 min later we find this nice sized blackie, just shy of 6', due to the angle and cover it's decided that uncle will tag him and at least get one for the pot.

Shane and his cousin Sarah, today was her first hunt in which an animal was taken. An hour later he's opened, cooling and covered with a canvass tarp to be recovered later in the day.

Not an hour goes buy and we miss a chance at a monster brown phase black bear, he decided while yours truly was monkeying around with camera trying to video his demise, that he's had enough :(

Then we see this cute little guy.

Now for the good part. We're driving along after a few hours have passed and not a thing to see. I'm getting the flack for being a bad guide and I don't know what I'm doing!!! The peanut gallery is told in no uncertain terms that I feel that our luck is about to change. Don't know why, just did.

Not 1km later there's a nice 5 1/2 + brown bear walking down the road like he owned it. No 1 son says Dad he's mine. I stop the truck, out he jumps and tags this guy. He takes off a little but not before unc takes an insurance shot. The rest was nothing but hard work getting it back out of the ravine and back to the road.

That was one heck of a day, one none of us will forget anytime soon.

Is this going to be a love hate relationship? Looks like both Dave's will be busy this spring trying to keep those two in the woods and separated.

H1947, the hide was no good, he does have the skull and a desire to get another this year, he almost bowed out of spring hockey in order to free up more weekend time!!

Now that he has a youthful challenge, and she's a girl has just raised the bar that much more!! Oh to be 12 again. LOL
