2016 grouse population

Just wondering how the grouse populations look in different parts of the province? I've seen some down hear in reg 2 which is better than I've seen in previous years

Ive been out 2 times and seen 2 grouse. With the warm spring and lack of rain I would say were looking at a good year... We will see how things look after summer and the 10 days of youth/bow season I always seem to hear people say they say 30 during 3 days.

Last year I saw more grouse around my Region 2 spot than ever. Probably saw 100 ruffies and a dozen blues throughout the year. In spring 2015 I saw lots on the road with their babies. 3 trips in that area so far this year and total sightings 0. I have heard a bit or drumming, so at least I know they aren't extinct :)

Son has been seeing a real lot around the Princeton area lately, I saw a big one here in Tulameen 2 days ago.
Hopefully the weather stays decent for the hatch

I've only seen one, but can hear them everywhere. It hasn't been particularly wet up Squamish way, but it hasn't been dry either.

I'll be buying 8 grouse tags again this year, that's for sure.

I take it your not planning on hunting very hard! I expect to fill my 20 tags allotment in 2 days,:lol:

No but region 2 has put forward a motion to make blues leh only better only get 5 tags.

I was out in 6.01 fishing last weak end and the grouse were drumming lots. There were all so lots of geese and ducks flying around. I was up at about 3500 feet so I guess things are just getting started.

As I've said on here before June is the critical month. If it's dry it should be a good year.

Lol I heard that was due to the heavy FN blue harvest in that region last year..

It was a HUGE year for grouse in the Peace last fall, and I saw more over the winter than I usually do. These few days of snow & misery won't be a problem, as the chicks haven't hatched yet. If June is decent & warm, there will be another great season this fall.

Saw another Region 2 ruffie on Friday or Saturday. Two so far this year... not as many sightings as last season but they're around. Hopefully it's dry enough for the little cheapers but damp enough to keep the rivers happy and fires at bay.

I havent seen the numbers i would normally see in reg 3 but still seeing a few. I predict a slightly worse than average year in my area. Hope im wrong cause my nephew just got his license this year and he's pretty keen to get some blood on his hands.

I went up last weekend to the area I hunt in 3. I saw a few deer and a bear, a few ducks. Not a sign of a grouse. Doesn't mean they aren't there, just not where they usually have been, and not when I passed by. I hope I can find them come Sept.

It's not looking great in my Region 2 grouse spots or MU in general. Seen 3 or 4 this year on the road and flushed some in the timber. Last year I was seeing a few every day I was out. Oh well. They're still some around and I'm still seeing bucks which is all that counts lol

Never saw so many in one place. All blue grouse.
But I won't be harvesting any.

We always have too much food on hand and it's the first year I've seen this abundance of grouse in my area so might as well let the numbers grow a little.
My dog was flushing some grouse too so now I don't feel like shooting them on the ground anymore.
Also they just stood there and we took pictures pretending to shoot them, they wouldn't move.
So you might just call them back camp chickens.

You don't need tags for region 2. Only for region 3 and 5. Good luck.
