GPS apps for Android?

I have a Samsung Galaxy phone, and wondering what GPS apps people use for hunting? Dont really want to drop a few hundred on a GPS, but want something that can be used without cell reception etc, as a backup for paper maps?

I use iHunterbc. It is a hunting app that has all the MU's and the regs overlayed on 8 different map systems. And is cachable. You just have to zoom in on the area you will be in and pan around while you still have cell service and it will cache everything you look at. It is a fantastic app. And about $6 I think.

Only the ArcGIS and MapQuest formats are Cacheable... Google maps/satellite is not cacheable.

I really like GPS Essentials - very easy to use. I've used garmin handhelds for a number of years and found Backcountry navigator quite clunky; Ymmv.

I also use google maps in 'offline' mode for the sat imagery (still have not figured out if I can do this inside GPS Essentials) but it works fine as a standalone. Lots of info available on the net for how to download google maps data
for offline use.

Hands down, HuntBuddy. The author is a member of this site and he does a great job of keeping it up to date and accurate. You can't really go wrong with HuntBuddy.
