Hey guys looking for some ideas to mount a Kolpin rifle scabbard to my Grizzly, hoping for some pics of your solutions. It looks like I'm going to have to fab something or the scabbard will sit completely horizontal with a good chunk of it sticking out behind me, not the best place for it I'm thinking. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Don't think I've got a picture online to post, but I had issues with my Kolpin as well. I ended up mounting the bracket on the front rack, but in reverse, so the barrel points down into the floor board area. I angled it slightly so the barrel was closer to the outside edge of the board. Initially I did it to protect my rifle from impacts, but it turned out to be way handier than I thought. I can pop the end cover and pull the rifle out while still standing on the machine, which can come in handy.

+1 for what river otter said...mount it to the front rack.

Did you have to fab something to clamp it to? The front rack isn't very big and I don't think it comes back far enough over the fender for the Kolpin to mount and tip down into the foot well. I'm going to go out and work on it tonight and see what I can come up with, just got the quad and of course I need it on there for tomorrow

I had to build a "sub-frame" with 3/4" plywood under my box to accommodate my Kolpin. There's not much angle to it but I like it this way so the rifle is better supported and not only supported by the barrel and/or scope.

I'm not all that familiar with a grizzly rack, but it was a non-issue on my Sportsman 500. Not sure if they still make them, but my bracket is a one piece moulded plastic, where you slide the scabbard through the opening. I'll go snap a pick of the bracket and try to hang a pic tonight.

Hmm I bought a piece of flat plate steel..and mounted that plate to the same location on the back of my Honda..then the mounting plate that came with the system was mounted to the flat plate.the rifle barrel faces forward pointing downward into the footwell..just clearing the right rear tire well .
Makes getting off the machine on the right side tricky..but itprotects the rifle best in this mounted location.
The plate makes putting mounting bolts..u..clamps totally adjustable and strong.
I then mount my day box on the back which hides most of the mounting plate.
The description you posted of that particular Kolpin is my favorite mounting system..ensure the plate goes wide enough to cover the entire base....round the edges good to go.
Cheers
Steven

I picked up the Polaris mount for my x2 and what a piece of crap. The boot doesn't even fit half way into it.

My gun boot came with mounting brackets so I carry it on the rear rack right side.
It's worked for me for over 10 years in that position..

I have a Kolpin gun boot on the right rear with muzzle facing rearward. Also, have a mount on the handle bars, beats the rifle stock up , ................but good for drive by's.

Similar to what bcsteve shows but I got a piece of 10ga aluminum and cut it to fit. My rear seat sat on top without any difficulty and the scabbard was still inboard behind my foot.

I have 2 on my Can am 500 as its a 2 up. The one that river otter shows on the rear and the one bcsteve shows on the front. Used a flat piece of steel to accommodate the one on the front with a couple of u bolts.

Mine is the same onemBCsteve has, I mounted it last night on the back with the barrel pointing into the foot well. The rack doesn't come very far forward so the rifle can't be tilted down very much. It will work for now but I will have to make some changes when I get some kind of locker for the back. I will try to post a pic at some point.

I've got the kolpin claws or whatever they're called, the ones that strap the gun in, not the boot, on the front rack.
Last weekend I had my 870 in the rack coming back from cutting firewood, and got a little rowdy, and rolled my quad off the side of a road doing somewhere around 60-70km. The bike did a complete flip in the air behind me, landed, rolled again, and was going for a third roll on top of me when I stopped it...with a sock foot, my boot got torn off during the crash somehow. The rear rack was broken off. The handlebars were bent, headlight housing beaten up and the headlight mount broken, and the steering shaft halfway broken.
All that, and the gun didn't move. It was still firmly strapped in when my buddies who were in the truck behind me pulled the bike out of the ditch...after they helped me out of it too.
I can't speak to the toughness of the gunboot, but if the rest of kolpin's products work that well, that's some good stuff!
Oh, and I'm fine, sprained thumb and a cut knee. I'm pretty good at falling off stuff.

Pics of the 870?

Just a regular old bearanoia shotgun. Second pic shows the scuffs that kinda lined up with the broken headlight housing.

Ah shit, that'll buff right out...........Was expecting much worse, given the circumstances. Good to hear you didn't get too mangled.

as a curiosity, what brand of quad do you ride? Lots of damage to the bike yet the plastic gun holder and the 870 got off more or less scott free. I've got an assumption, but I'll keep it to myself for the time being.

I've used the claw type mounts on the front and gun boots off the front and the back racks, but I still haven't found a system that I'm really happy with.

Didn't wanna post this earlier, as it's my proprietary GO TO for those crowded September EK roads, but I see someone already snapped a pic of me heading to my "Honey Hole" and hung it on the NET, so I might as well share it here too.....

The beauty of this system is it allows me to get multiple rounds off, on the fly, over a 180 degree swing range and never requires me to dismount. As a added bonus, CO's waive me right through check points......not that I'm stopping anyway...

If you're wondering why my bikes only 2wd, that's because I'm a sportsman, first and foremost, and it ups the CHALLENGE getting into those hard to reach areas.

Kolpin on my Grizzly. No problems while riding .Going to try to move it inward a bit but the bolt heads stick up and rub on the cargo box

A thoroughly abused before I bought it, 1994 Polaris 400L. My first venture into the world of quads. The rear rack was already bent, one mounting leg broke and all 4 mounting bolts broke. It was a violent crash. Guys in the truck behind me all three expected to see major trauma when they came running up.

Hi I didnt read all 3 pages so forgive me if its been mentioned. I ride ATV alot and also use them for work. I find all mounts , ( and gun boot) rattle apart as time goes by, especailly if you ride the rough tails with blow down and regrowth. ( same goes for chainsaw mounts) Many years ago I went back to slinging the rifle across the chest and over the shoulder. Also if you do go with a mount dont do it horizontally blocking your easy dismount. I did that to be able to drive under blow down and its very dangerous. In steep terrain you cant jump free or dismount if you tip or start rolling.

I wasn't happy with the amount of vibration that my Y mounts, or my Kolpin gun boot had. I bought a safari sling for last fall and am relatively happy with that.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has experience with the quick draw rifle sling: https://youtu.be/qH6A7M5EBJQ

They are from the island I think.

Thanks for all of the input guys, Buck I see your mount to the bike is a little different than mine and pushes the rifle further forward,I will have to try and find one of those.

Seek and you shall find! went looking for the same bracket as Buck has on his bike and found the bracket only online should be delivered early next week.
