Started my day arguing with bbd, got bored with that so went to salvage a fir snag off some private property. Not no tree planting but...

Came home changed my 'diaper' and went for a drive looking for Yogi. Luckily Riverotter told me where to go so I just drove up to the top of a block and started glassing, before I could even get the binos up there he was. Popped the cherry on the 338 Lapua.

Been 15 years since I took a blackie, they all look big from afar and small up close to me. Bit of a struggle getting in the truck though. Good sausages!

With 285 grains you don't need any weight retention! Wood n bears. Good day indeed.

Was my thought too, and penetrate was sufficient also. But makes one wonder how it would fare point blank against a snarling freight train that wants through you:shock:

Prolly won't rip him a new arsehole, like a TSX, but I'm fair certain it'll get his undivided attention.

I know the feeling though, digging an empty jacket out of a victim doesn't envoke warm/fuzzy....

Nice work with the lapua, did you hit any significant bone? Where's the Amax on the bullet toughness spectrum.
im shooting 300 gr Bergers OTM Tacticals outta my 338 Edge but haven't shot any game, curious to give it a whirl though.

High shoulder scapula, clipped spine with major trauma, took out opposite shoulder knuckle found jacket hung up in opposite side hair. Impact velocity 2350fps, 3500ft-lbf. So I'd call it a pass through the toughest bone protecting vitals. Trauma to vitals sufficient lol, was a bit concerned not to find Berger sized shrapnel all over however. Did make for much less meat loss than I'd expected, the fragments (more like dust!) not having enough mass to leave vitals.

I would bet as impact velocity rises damage to onside shoulder would rise, penetration would drop but vitals still be destroyed. And as far as penetration and bullet weight retention goes I would say this bullet/caliber is just starting to come into its own. Should be a reliable expander and penetrator down to 1800fps, much further than I'll ever shoot at game.
I tried OTM out this rig, didn't agree with it. They should be much more stouter from what I've researched. And the edge should push it quick enough for reliable expansion way out there.

Nope, really starting to grow on me too. And at less than half the cost of that other hunk of steel I got, that's counting reloading supplies lol.

Was through the local Vernon 'Mickey Mouse' gun store. Good price but was on sale, service horrible lol. Beware the early model 111 long range hunters in this caliber. First one I brought home had a bunk chamber, couldn't even close the bolt on virgin brass. Have heard same report from others, the 2nd one works really well. I believe all early models should be off the shelf by now, but used I'd be leery buying sight unseen. Seem to be a bunch for sale on gunutz, makes me wonder? It's not cheep to shoot so maybe why..
