When is the best time to put up the boxes. I know of a few areas I see wood ducks at.
We usually put fresh wood chips in the boxes right after spring geese so by April 1. The boxes in the pictures were put up Easter Monday and we had birds checking them out by April 6. Eggs were getting layed just over a week ago in them and I expect l think we'll see more results at the end of next week.
On our last check of the spring in early June last year, we were surprised to find a newly occupied nest with a hen sitting on eggs. Not too late yet but odds are getting lower for success. But if they are up, next April they only need to be cleaned and fresh wood chips put in.
