View Full Version : Linex or Rhino? any advice

I've been pricing out those sprayliners and want to do mine soon because I have one of those inserts and don't like it for many reasons mainly slippage. Any advice or experiences out there with either the rhino or linex?--assuming the prep work is done properly. The application would be to transport a quad and the usual hunting stuff. I've spoken to both company reps and seen both, but am interested in any malfunctions like peeling and slippage with atv tire contact as well as general durability over the longer term. Thanks for sharing

There's a good thread on crawlinbc about places to avoid, customer service issues, and warranted issues with some of the outfits all over BC. It's in the tow rigs section of the board.

I have had both. The rhino was bulletproof for the life of the truck. I had a line x put in my current work truck. I think it was a poor installation as it lifted off in spots right away. They did a warranty touch up but that didn't help much. I have to be careful with it or it peels off. Pretty sure they hired the guy that sprayed was brand new at it and didn't know how to prep properly.

Didn't apply it myself, but I have ArmourGuard(sp) in my truck and am happy with durability. I haul quads, rock, gravel, lumber and chainsaws and you'd never know it by looking at the liner.

Worst I've done to it is wear a flat spot near the front of the box where my winch fair lead on my quad rubs. Can hardly blame the coating, as the fairlead goes up and down with the bike suspension and the truck sees some fairly rough roads. A block of wood would solvectge problem, but I usually forget.

I've read somewhat about this before going ahead with any work and I think it mostly comes down to prep for their work. If they sand properly their product will adhere (I've seen some rhino lining jobs and wasn't impressed). I've had Armaguard on my new Sierra for the last few years and havent had a problem. Armaguard Coatings7-8100 Capstan Way, Richmond, BC V6X 1R5. Don't know if this guy is still around but did a decent job on my truck, just make sure he doesn't cut corners by not pulling out the tie down plugs before spraying.

Last 2 trucks, a Ranger and an F-150 were Linexed in Burnaby.
Both times excellent work, no "spray" over, bolts removed and replaced, super jobs.
Both have been virtually indestructible other than the wife dropping a big can of grey porch paint on it.
Linex said they'd recover the "damaged" area but I didn't bother.
I like the stuff.

Have had Rhino lining in my truck since 2002. It has seen a lot of abuse over the years from campers, quads, gravel, fuel tanks and hardly has a mark or a chunk out of it. Had a tuck for 6 years with Linex that saw less abuse and it was peeling in spots within 2 years. I had the Rhino lining done at Hi Lite in Langley

I used these guys, http://splashes.ca/services/spray-on-truck-bed-liner-armaguard/ on my new truck. Had it almost 8 months now, and just took the first chunk out of it the other day, i had a bunch of scrap metal in my truck, and while pushing it all in, a sharp piece gouged 1 little spot. Besides that, I've been kicking the crap outta it pretty good, just hauled a few full loads of top soil, and was running the shovel right against the liner shoveling everything out, and when i cleaned it out after I was finished with the dirt, it looks brand new save the 1 chunk i knocked out. Overall, pretty happy with the service, as strong as any coating I've had in any of my trucks over the years IMO, and it's got nice grip to it, it's not all smooth like some of the other coatings.

heres my dads truck, linex shop in kamloops did the work. In addition to what you can see, the rockers, over the fenders, rear bumper and tailgate was done. Tailgate was paint matched white. I beleive total cost was 2400. Very happy with the results, a week after he had it done we put it in the ditch pretty good dispite my advice to keep to the left. 3 hours later once we were back on the road, linex wasn't even scuffed.

I have had both, both were done on brand new trucks. Cost and convienence and installer reputation would be my deciding points on which way to go next time.

Rhino lining was a lot cheaper when I was looking, interesting to see it is actually getting a few better reviews than line-x here. I got my box, rocker panels, side steps, fender flares and area behind the fender flares all rhino lined for 1100 bucks at the Ford dealership in Salmon Arm. It's only been a year but I'm happy with it. Same job would have been 2400 for line-x in Kamloops!

My linex is peeling in the tight back corners. Like was said earlier, prep will make a huge impact on how it adheres

Decided on the armaguard and it looks great..top rails too. I pulled out the plugs before and popped em back in after. Armaguard seemed more resistant to sliding IMO when I compared the three. Time will tell how it holds up.

Looks good, I'm sure you'll be happy with the durability. I'm not nice to mine at all and it takes it like a champ.

Can't tell from your pics, did you run it along the top rails? I never think twice about sliding stuff in over the box side, which is what a truck should be.

Armaguard is Ameriguard in the US which is a sister to Ultimate Linnings\Extreme Liners\Quick Liner. The product is VERY good.
