Tempting, very tempting... especially with reports of bear sightings and factors that could reasonably explain bears coming out of hibernation early this year. I could hunt this weekend, but I'm busy the next two. I will still be holding out until around the 24th of April and then hunt every weekend until the freezer is full or the season ends.

For those heading out, may the odds be ever in your favor! :) Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the fresh air, seeing wildlife. Spring is in the air and it's hard to beat being outdoors and seeing new life all around.

Best of luck to all heading out today! Heading out to open up the trailer/hunt camp shortly.....not to much faith in seeing anything, but will be looking to christen my new toy if the opportunity shows up.

One bear in the field I watch on Wednesday before going in and setting up cameras. There out and typically the boars would be out first.

I just drove down from mica dam out of Revlestoke yesterday and I would say save your gas money for a few more weeks its still winter in the high peaks where the bears are denned up ,you may stumble across the odd one but you well not be picking through them to see which ones the big boy. that's just my opion thow ,and a day out is better than a day in

I am going to wait a couple more weeks till I take my rifle for a walk. :)
Then I will be putting up a new trail cam and hopefully taking down the old one and moving it.

Zero green vegetation in 7-15 where I was. At around 1800 feet. I'm not holding my breath for a blackie in the next two weeks.

Saw a post on FB yesterday... looked like someone had success in Region 2 within an hour from home.

Seeing so much grass and dandelions around has me wondering what my spots look like.

Gonna pick up my license and tags today, but it's still going to be 3 weeks before I'm creeping around out there.

Nothing but dandelions where I work in Region 2. I would assume there's a few bears around

They are certainly out and about in region 2 - I startled one yesterday while out for my walk near the house (north Coquitlam)

I'm sure something is kicking around Prince George . Well I know there is. We need a week of sun... A week of rain then a week of sun and boom.... Find the green stuff and Bears will be there.

Too much snow here yet to even consider going out. 3 weeks and then reconsider.

Post at 7:24... I am guessing you left a couple hours before it got dark. If possible (obviously one might have other obligations) hunt until last light. Out of my last 5 up-close and personal bear encounters, 2 were within an hour of legal shooting light and 3 were within the last half hour of shooting light (one hour after the light bulb goes down behind the mountain on the other side of the valley) ... ideally should be the last place in the valley you cant see the sun from...

I bet if you hunker down on a spot with lots of track or poop, you'll hear that bear cracking through the bush/brush or whatever, exactly 30 mins after that big light bulb in the sky drops behind the mountains on the other side of the valley. And if yer seeing where the sun is shining after you cant see the sun, you're on the wrong side of the valley :D

Can't wait to get out... wasn't planning for another 3 weeks because I can't spend 2 full days but wife is wanting to go for a 1 nighter. Found out today though I had a couple bolts on the spare tire carrier with mashed threads (need to replace somehow) need boots for the balljoints (and maybe a new ball joint) I'll have to see if I can get it done tomororw... no time during the week.

Got my license today... bit of a pain though. They wrote March 2016 for the expiry date first time around, then had to go back because they forgot to have us sign after they filled out the bear tags then phoned me (tho I should have caught that before walking away) my bad

we did see one decent blackie but the ******* threw a dirty diaper at us and ducked behind a stack of 8-tracks before we could get a shot off.

Same here on my end. 3 rabbits 2 blacktail and a decent sized black bear poked out at the end of the day. To bad I was packing a .22 for rabbits or that bear would have gone down... Also all within an hour

Two things missing from your post

1) why didnt you shoot the black bear
2) what are the exact gps coordinates to the location where you did not shoot said bear

I haven't bought a new license. And I was going to check on the cabin. My buddies kid is camping out tonight. The bear is about five hundred yards from his tent. I took him, And showed him. He has his dog and a 303. He should be safe. Not the bear. LOL

caddisguy is hungry for bear tacos. We have about 10lbs left in the freezer. Call me if you if your buddies kid needs any help.

I might head out for a couple of hours this afternoon here in the central Kootenays(region 4) but I'm pretty sure it'll just be a hike with a gun. The grass is greening up lower down but it's likely still too early for the most part, I've heard of a few bear sightings but I'd have to get pretty lucky to come across one of those early risers.

Great first weekend out, spent Saturday in R2 MU 2-11. The original plan was to scout the Soo River FSR. This plan failed as the road is still snowed in roughly 250m up. It was back to the map book to figure out plan b. I settled on Upper lillooet FSR and worked my way up to the 37km mark (meager creek). It was still winter up there, little greener lower down the valley. Spotted six blacktail, moose sign as well.

Today was spent in R2 MU 2-18. Harrison East FSR, in between Bear Creek and Clear Creek. The areas where the sun is getting through are greening up. Still fairly bare though. The main line was busy, cut blocks not so much.

Good to get out and scout some new locations anyway.

Spent the day out of the elaho today in 2-6. No bear sign or bears and not really too green yet. tonnes of moose sign but I couldn't find any sheds. the rifle has been neglected and desperately needed a walk!
