Hello All,

I've been gleaning information from all of you for years but haven't really contributed anything yet. Check out this close encounter with a nice elk from this past fall:

We have a number of off-grid, hunting and fishing video stories on our blog at: http://gridlessness.com/

Check them out and let me know what you think.

Thanks again for all the valuable information over the years!

Been there, done that. Nothing like a bugling bull in your face to make your balls tingle.

thanks for posting. Gets me all amped up for Sept. 1 2016

Ive had close to the exact same experience happen a few times over the yrs on the Prophet River.Ive called some bulls down to the opposite side of the river only to have them hold up and others come across.Had one 6 by face me from 20 yrds like that on the other side for 15 minites then head back into the timber to come out 5 minites later down wind and try to wind me.
When he got to within 10 yrds I put a 300 weatherby round thru his neck.
Yes the blood gets pumping for sure!

And that to all the newbies is "how you become an Elkaholic".

Whatever happen to the 2nd bull that was bugling??? did he ever show??

Thanks for posting....good stuff.

There was actually 3 bulls in total. Another 5 point came out but stayed on the far side of the river. There was another that never came out, and we believe that he was the herd bull. And yes, I agree with your Elkaholic comment.

I really do commend you and your family for doing what I'm sure a lot of us would love to do...live off the land, completely self reliant...

On another note, wicked video! I have not had the pleasure of seeing an elk that close up, but I'm sure it really gets the ol ticker going good

We really enjoy raising our kids this way. Living a life of adventure while off grid! I'm glad that you've enjoyed the video.
