Does anybody know where I could find the breakdowns of outfitter quotas for sheep in BC. I think it would be helpful for newbies looking to plan their trips. Higher quotas would infer more robust populations and a better opportunity for resident success.

Might be better off trying to find previous non res harvest numbers according to game management zones for recent years. Some outfitters are finding it hard to find good sheep guides. The outfitters hiring rookies don't have the high harvest rates and others who can't find good guides are taking less hunters instead of risking their reputations. If you can find both sets of information and compare them you will be more likely to find the best areas with the least pressure. Sometimes you can look at the outfitters prices and the ones that offer a basic hunt price with a trophy fee are usually the ones that are the least successful percentage wise regarding the number of hunters the take. Or just send them to the area of the outfitter you like least but make sure they report back to you with the amount of sheep they see so you can figure out better where you want to hunt next year.

There are still over-inflated quotas in some areas of region 6 due to the hangover of the ' Skeena formula'. In previous years, if the outfitters kept the average age of their harvest above a certain level, their quotas kept increasing regardless if they actually had the Rams or not. That's one of the reasons why some outfitters were/are so defensive of 'their' sheep. Every ram that they could keep residents from shooting meant one more ram for them. At least that's the way it was in the old days.

Higher quotas would infer more robust populationsIf only it worked that way, but the science isn't there.
