I got one there a number of years ago. Haven't been to that area for years though so not sure if I would be of any help. They are there for sure.

Check on road status. I was there fall 2014 and both roads south from Valemount (East and west sides of lake) were blown out. A boat would be the way to go. That lake changes moods like a 15yr old girl. Be mindful of the weather.

I know they're logging the east side but not sure how far up. You can also try west ridge FSR on the other side of the highway.
