Yet another successful finish to a well hunted season. Headed up again for my last hunt of the season with 4pointer and HighCountry. We arrived Friday night so all we really had time for was a quick bite then off to bed. The next day about 7am I made my way down a road which HighCountry had mentioned seeing quite a bite of scat. Lots of fresh green grass along the roadside and the frequent piles of scat gave me a good feeling that morning. Since this was my last tag of the season I wanted to make sure to find me a nice sized fella. The plan was to find some open areas to do some glassing for a bit of the morning. I must have only been about 2 maybe 3km into the hunt when I heard some scuffling and branches breaking about 20 yards int the bush to my right. I took a glance and what do you know, I had spooked a large brownie who had bedded there. So off he goes at a slow walk downhill. Ahead of me I could see the road turn to the left and around to his direction of travel. Since I didn't spook him into one of those frenzy death runs I knew he wasn't in a hurry so I headed down the road to catch him before he crossed again below. Just as I round the corner there he comes walking up the road towards me.
At this point there must have only been 30-40 yards between us. So he stops quartering forwards towards my left and I feed him a round of 7mm WSM 160 grn FP Nosler Accubond and off he goes into the bush. I was positive about my shot placement so I gave him some time then went after him. He expired about 10 yards into the bush with the bullet penetrating his heart.
A perfect ending to another much anticipated season!

Good going, looks like you're getting your ears wet this spring. Now you'll be able to concentrate on other animals this fall. You realize now you'll see the biggest bear of your life this fall with no more tags.
