I was up hiking with the hounds last weekend, some green grass starting to grow just below the snow lines/patches so should be a little for them to eat at least down lower.

Locally , last weekend a bear attacked a dog out for a walk
COs are suggesting early sightings may be of starving bears as many went into the winter in poor shape due to last summers poor berry crop , in some areas.

Yea I heard that too....but our early spring might be a sight for sore eyes for them

Saw the first bear tracks of the year up in Prince George this morning.

Unfortunately the little snow we had in the backyard melted and I don't have any pics.

Good reminder for those shed hunting and hiking to be well prepared for potentially aggressive bears. Don't usually think of hungry bears out and about in March.

This guy was sniffing the air and stuck his long nose out I would imagine that's a smell thing as he locked his nose.. and yes it was a obvious male muscle mass was obvious even after the slumber.
I think he was just out to take a cap but he was out.

If you're going to kill a bear for meat, remember.....it hasn't taken a dump in 5 months.......let him walk around a while.....eat a few things.....take half a dozen dumps or more......you know...freshen that roast up a little.....:)

Ha, you made me think.....bear season doesn't open till April 1st so hopefully they can cycle through a few loads of salad by then! But I agree, it's usually May before I look into filling my freezer.

im with you on this one. I certainly head out early with my pals looking for bears but i wont take one until may or even june, let them get some feed and fresh nutrients through the system first.

Rest assured, by the time bears are legal to shoot, they've cycled plenty of grub. Snow is gone in the timbered areas long before many of the wide open areas, and the bears will have access to roots and shoots before the grass/clover rears its head.

River otter..

One day I went out with 3 guys April 2nd we all shot bears it was a masscare. I took a big boar one of my largest I ever shot..

In summary they all tasted like shit... only bears I have ever had I didn't want...never again let them eat some greens trust me...

That said I never shot a bear in that valley again.

Saw this guy on camera a few times last year. Hopefully he shows up again this year. He looks like he just came out of the dryer in this pic.

Some say they do, I never took a bear early spring, we went late May and fall. I'll ask around

Snow is gone in the timbered areas long before many of the wide open areas, and the bears will have access to roots and shoots before the grass/clover rears its head.Have found bbears wandering the roads munching green way before the snow is gone in the trees , guess it depends on the year.
April 1st is only 9 days and nothing for sign out so far that I have seen.

One day I went out with 3 guys April 2nd we all shot bears Bet those hides were some of the best. All the reason for two tags , one early for hair , second one can be meat.

I have never hunted bear for meat or sport but may do...I always had imagined that early spring bear fresh out of the winter cave would be the best...maybe not so much...
I really love the looks of that Bbear fur that "just came out of the dryer"...awesome pic
