I saw a sow with four cubs in different colors last spring, but I wasn't quick enough to snap a photo. They were gone in seconds as soon as they saw me. The funny thing was the sow wasn't big at all!

The most that I have ever seen was 5 cubs. A lot depends on the previous season and how the sow went to den. A good year and heavy fat concentrations will result in a higher cub count.

I have seen 4 cubs only once and that was last year on the sunshine coast. I have seen many sets of triplets but only one set of three mature cubs. They were grizzlys in the west kootneys.

I've seen 4 cubs several times. Not sure what the genetic trait controlling hair color is but I've seen a sow with 3 cubs, they were all different colors. In the last couple of years with easy winters and early springs there were lots of bears popping out 3 or 4 a year.

Never 4... But I have seen the same sow for the past two springs with triplets. I thought 3 would be tough to make it into the 2nd year.

i have seen the same cinnamon sow with 3 black cubs, multiple times over the last 6 years.I have never seen 4 cubs.Either something pushed her out of the area or she just moved on or was shot by some idiot i didn't see her last year.I never saw that sow without cubs in 6 years.

Seen quite a few with 3.........never seen 4 ?
It's not unusual for the cubs to be different phase........they often will turn colours as they age too ( a brown cub often becomes black and vice versa) :-D

I have seen a few 3 cub batches but never four. A feat of prolific proportions to say the least. The poor girl has her work cut out for her and the odds of her bringing all four to adulthood is going to be a challenge. Personally, I wish her all the best. May she find a food source with abundancey to assist her in accomplishing her task.

I once saw seven (7) bears feeding in a group, all different colours. At first I thought they were cattle, until I got close enough. They all were more or less the same size varying slightly. But all blacks not griz.

Like most folks, I've triplets but this is the first foursome. What's the odds of her adopting a stray??

Seen a nice size sow with 4 two year old cubs this spring. All the cubs were the same size and I am sure right now that they are all wondering why mom does not like them any more and is chasing them away.

Second time I have seen a sow with 4 cubs. Seen lots of triplets and even have on video a sow grizz with three two year olds, all in great shape.
