how would a 22 250 55 grain nosler ballistic tip work on a wolf what my gun shoots best shot will be between the 200-300 yrd at most most likey 200 yard you think the 55 grain nosler ballictic tip would penetrate enough on a wolf at this distance . got them going 3588 fps at muzzle

I'm not too sure how well they would work. I think they are designed to fragment on impact. Wolves can get pretty big. I bet a 55 gr.. E-Tip or 60 gr Partition would work more reliably. The Partition requires a 1-12 twist though.

The last wolf I shot I used a 223 with a 50 gr vmax, dog dident know what hit him, looked like a grenade went off in his chest cavity. I think the ballistic tip is farely similar....?

Okay from what i read the nosler ballistic tip has a thicker jacket than the v max had a thinner jacket. i used v max before on coyotes small entry no exit . but i have not tried these ballistic tips on anything yet .

I shot a wolf with a 224" 55gr NBT. Impact speed approx 3000 fps (about what your load would do at 150 yards) - bullet hit him quartering away and exited the far side. He spun a few times and fell over. The heavier jacket towards the base of the NBT will make it penetrate more than a Vmax - also very explosive so you get some massive damage in the first few inches of penetration

The wolves I shot with my 22-250 all soaked up 3 or 4 to the guts. Hornady 55grn SP.

They worked with poor shot placement, with good placement, 1 shot probably would've been enough.

I find with wolves that if you hit them anywhere with the first shot, they'll lay down for a few seconds to figure out what happened, and then they regroup and take off if they aren't hit good. I learned the hard way once, and now always take my time once I've hit them and put some insurance into them.

Yes those bullets will work.

DRT double lung shot was 225 yards across the frozen Fraser River near McBride.

Load was a 55gr Sierra Varminter (as explosive if not more than the BT) @ 3660fps out of my 26" barreled 22-250.
