Sorry, I forgot my camera, but I took some pictures of the salted hide when I got home just before I dropped it off to become a rug.

East of the Cariboo in the shadow of the Rockies.

I am going to try photo bucket.

The taxidermist measured the bear after I dropped it off and called me to tell me the size so I am not sure how he took the measurement.

Pup, I have no dog in this fight, so if you pm me I can set up a viewing and you can tape it.

We were way back and high enough so that there was still snow in the shade. It was about mid day and we had walked a few areas and were driving out of one area into another when I saw this glossy fellow eating grass in this little meadow about 75 yards away.

We stopped and got out and looked him over - the more we looked, the better he looked. At this point he was starting to meander away in a slow methodical fashion. So the shot was into the vitals from behind the ribs.

There was nothing to rest on so I sat down and braced off my knee. The first hit took him there and he ran to the tree line like nothing had happened.

Then he stopped and looked back at me and I hit once more in the same spot. When the second shot hit him he wheeled around and started charging right at us. He ran about 20 feet or so really fast, then slowed down for another 20 feet or so and then he just laid down and that was it.

It's quite a testament to these animals because he didn't have much heart or lung left since the first shot and the second did more of the same and he still covered all that ground.

Interestingly enough neither bullet went through. It's like they got caught up in the bones and rattled around in his ribcage.

I was using a 338 win mag with Federal 225's.

The hide was already heavily salted when I took the picture and would have burned a hole in the lawn if I flipped it over.

I will post a picture of the finished rug when it's done.

Yes, the 338 is a somewhat effeminate cartridge.

Thinking I should pick up a 416 Rigby or a 458 Lott, then I could really show those bears.
