Went out last weekend for my very first bear trip and the first animal i have ever killed. Here is a pic. The camera wasn't set up right but it does give a good idea of the size. The hide was squared off at 7.3ft and the skull should dry out over 19in. Anyone know if this will make a record ?

Sorry cant load pic right now. File is to big.... Will figure it out later and post.

Well first off i just bought a Ruger M77 MK11 30-06 in stainless with a Leupold VX111 2.5-8X36 boone and crocket. I was hunting with my brother in law in the Okanagon where he lives. The 2 Kids are his and they were with us the 3 days i was up there. Here is how my weekend went.

Day 1
I got there at 6pm and as soon as i walked in the door we turned around and went up the mountain. We went to a clearing and there was the Bear that i eventually shot (twice). We tracked him then he disappeared.

Day2
We got up at 4am and proceeded to drive to so many areas that may have a bear and nothing so we decided to wait for the evening hunt. We got back to the place where we were the first night and spotted many bears. I had the opertunity to shoot 1 that was 20 yrds down from me but was unsure of the size so i turned around and walked away. We then spotted this big boar. Stalked it for a bit and decided that this was the place. I raised my gun, took the shot, he jumped and i knew i hit him. We walked over to where i shot him and no blood nothing. So here i was thinking this has turned into a nightmare. We tryed following his tracks but decided to go home and look in the morn.

Day3
Got there at 5am and still nothing. Saw lots of tracks and where he had beaded for the night and no blood. We decided he had made it and took another drive up to a different area . We came around a corner and we saw a big black bear 10yrds from us walking up a trail. I didn't even see us. i got out, rounded a corner and he was gone. Didn't even hear him walking in the bush. That was it. Now we are back to our fav spot and wait. We spotted a really nice Black one and tracked him for 2.5hrs and then he was gone. We then decided this was it as it was starting to get dark so we packed everything up and started off. Just then my inlaw took a last look down the clearing and there was my brown bear. We did the comacozie bonzi run down the hills and stalked him for about 20min just got over a ridge and there he was posing for me. I took 1 shot because thats all i had in my gun. We found him just inside the tree line and after gutting we found it was the bear i shot the night before. :-D

Yes i am making it into a rug. I was able to skin it at a taxidermy's shop. He also did all the measurements for me so they are very accurate.
