So we've been blessed the last couple years with mild winters, but in my area, I'm seeing a lot more snow this year...not colder temps, but definitely more snow...so what's the projections on how the deer/elk/moose will fare???

In my area it should be a good year for them as we have nothing for snow or cold temps.

Yea but I'm sure it's not anywhere nearly as bad as other places....few and far between for now anyways.....but if they are like grizz....they are making their way here

Where abouts in region 2 are you seeing all this...not much sign where I go....mind you there is tons of deer sign so that's a good thing

So we've been blessed the last couple years with mild winters, but in my area, I'm seeing a lot more snow this year...not colder temps, but definitely more snow...so what's the projections on how the deer/elk/moose will fare???Winter seems completely average here in the north Okanagan

Okanagan is at 125% of average as at Jan 1st, albeit with a small number of stations surveyed.

They sample more as we get further into the year. Feb data should be up soon.

Supposed to be +16 in Abbotsford on Monday, +8 in 100 mile house. Maybe we are finally done with winter.

Spoken like a true lower mainlander.

Last year it was mid Feb when it started to get sunny and it stayed sunny for the most part until fall. Epic year.

I haven't been out to the Squamish Valley much this winter but 2 years ago there was lots of wolf sign here and up by Pemberton. 3 Years ago I saw a couple and heard the whole pack. They might not be into the Fraser Valley but they are definitely around the western side of Region 2

Not much snow in the Skeena Region.

The endless supply of predators, that the MFLNRO ignores, will be the real downfall of all ungulates here!

Good luck with any common sense on that issue until it's too late.

Everybody knows that region 9 is well known for its excessive snowpack, most the ungulates in your region follow migration routes out through region 10.

Doesnt look like Atlin lake will freeze this winter. A normal freeze is between Xmas and New Years. Was late last year by about 5 weeks and then an eatly thaw too. Mot sure how lack of ice effects both wolf and prew movements but i wouldnt want to be stuck on 1 side with the doggies.

North Thompson we have way less snow in the valley bottom. Lots up top though. Grader operator in Raft Valley says upwards of 9'. Deer numbers everywhere are still down. Moose sightings were up this fall so they will be down where they can make a living.

South Cariboo has a bit more snow that the last few years, but has been much warmer than normal. We have not been any colder than -23C, and that was for only one night. The predator population is huge, both Wolves and Cougars. Moose are almost non-existent. I commute 26kms to work, it used to be a weekly occurrence to see Moose on the way to work, this winter I have seen one all winter! The Deer have been pushed into town, where they can get away from the preds. There are not many left out in the bush.

Snows almost gone and the Gilpin has been bare for a few weeks. Deer numbers seem low on the winter grounds....but we will see.
Sheep numbers seem real good, with some very nice rams around...

Here in cranbrook we had more snow then the last 4 years but with milder temperatures in the past two weeks 50% of the snow has melted this is good a couple weeks ago there was about 12 inches of snow on the ground now there is only 6 inches this is good some nights it did not freeze in the past two weeks this is good the animals have an easier time breaking the snow to get at there food I sure that the animals will be fairing just fine with there food source around the EK..

^^^^great to hear...our animals in my part of region 8 seem pushed right down...my buddy has pics of 2 moose in his backyard, low elevation, and were seeing less tracks up high compared to the last 2 winters..

I'm optimistic the fires we've had in the last few years in region 8 will help the ungulate numbers..

No snow in the Peace, so way less highway kills that's forsure.

Snow in the Okanagan is receding by the day. 4 degrees and raining as I type. Road kill is a good point. I have not seen many at all this year.

^^^^yes it definitely is at low elevations, though im sure more deer were pushed lower this year because of more snow at the mid elevations....and same for me on roadkill, haven't seen any this year, good news..
