I just got off the phone with his wife Ramona......she says they upped his morphine and other than 2 black eyes he's doing fine......:confused:

I had my full knee replacement Jan 27 2015. It was the most pain I had ever been in, but it also the best thing I had done . I need to get other one replaced also, so will do it next winter. Not looking forward to the pain but the end result is worth it. In 3 months you will wish you did it years ago. Lots of ice ( on the knee , not in the glass ) and keep it moving to get range of motion back. All the best healing up.

The Surgeon took one look at RJ and decided only Titanium aftermarket parts would do..........being a Scottsman Rj got a sneeky grin on his face thinking I'll finally get enough Titainium for a new Remington 700 Ti action and wont have to pay for it !

When there is no more cartilage left to protect and cushion the different bones and everything is clicking and binding up, cause for me was jumping out of trucks for 50 yrs and 3 operations later to try and fix torn cartilage, usual fix is cortiszone to get some fluid around the joints and that quits working a surgeon will decide if a new joint is needed, just waiting to find out if I qualify today but still able to drag my ass around in pain which they don't think counts.

My Pa had the same knee surgery last fall. Within a few weeks he managed to tick off the Sawbones & Ma by tossing the canes, and running his dog on pheasants! Not suggesting you do the same, but it would seem some can heal from this type of operation relatively quickly. Bet you feel like a New Man in short order!! :wink:

Hope all goes well with your healing. My wife had both knees replaced with titanium at the same time a year ago last September. She does hiking , ladders and virtually anything else she wants other than kneeling...can't stand the foreign sensation. While still in the operating room they installed a Polar Ice machine that we had bought beforehand on the surgeons' recommendation to reduce the swelling. Used maybe close to 40 bags of ice cubes over the next 2 to 3 months and had physio in home as soon as she starting moving around . Bought her an exercise bike and the first few attempts weren't much but now with the seat fully lowered and the friction turned way up she can easily do 15 minutes nearly flat out . She has loaned the ice machine out several times to other friends and they all swear by it. Certainly recommend the machine to reduce the swelling and speed up mobility.

AS mentioned when you have no cartilage left and your joints are bone on bone causing inflammation and extreme pain. I had no cartilage for over 15 years, but they would not consider replacing either of them becasue I was too young. The replacements will not last forever so they want to do it as a last resort. Or if it comes to a point when you have no quality of life and can not function in life, sleep or work. Mine was do to hard use, being a big guy and I inherited Arthritis from both my parents and had it since I was 19. Also if you ever get knee joint damaged from accident that also would give reason for replacement
