Went to my friends place late November for mule deer. He had taken a nice one a week or two prior. We arrived at the cabin and got our gear together and started hiking for the ridge we wanted to hunt. We saw a few whitetails flag as they ran away and I realized they were open and I had a tag in my book. we slowed down a bit and not long after I saw some movement and then lost it. My friend spotted it and then it came into view again. 60 yards from us was a decent whitetail. All we could see was 4 points as he was sleeping in some tall grass. I raised the 35 whelen and fired. The deer never moved.
getting up to him was very exciting. I had never shot a whitetail let alone hunted whitetail before. Realizing I had just taken a beauty 5x5 whitetail around 150" was mind blowing. For this is the reason I always have extra tags in my hunting license. You never know what you could run into in BC. I don't know what I was thinking but I didn't Cape him out and I would like to get him mounted. So I need to find a nice Cape if anyone has one let me know.

same for me on carrying extra tags...rather have some tag soup than have to hold off on an animal for lack of a tag.....that is a beauty

Sometimes it happens that easy. And then year after year, you look to that same spot, and visualize that same scenario. And then one day, you realize how old you got..... Congratulations. The memories stay strong forever.

Congrats on a good buck. You set the bar fairly high for your first whitetail!

Thanks for posting, it helps get us through the dog days of winter.

Congrats that is an awesome whitey for region 3. As for having numerous tags that is a must. The CO in Burns Lk pulls me over and looks at my license and says hhmmm you have a lot of tags...I say and your point is???? That is a real beauty of a deer.

That's a great Buck....Did you get him scored....I am guessing over 140 and BC book is 150....I took a 145 this year and yours looks a little more even....

Your lucky to get that close to him while he was sleeping. He must have been really tired from chasing does.

I would be surprised if any taxidermist you take it to doesn't have a variety of capes on hand .

Beauty buck!! Congrats!

Keep in mind that Alberta whitetails are generally much bigger bodied than our southern interior whities. Personally, I would look for a local cape to ensure the proportions are closer to your buck.
