with the newer addition to the family, priorities have changed a little to more time spent with the family and less time going solo, but it was still a great season past on a few bucks and settled for some smaller one,
on the way to the kootenays talk about an interesting trip,

Congrats on your season...looks like fun.
Can't say my Elk hunt in the EK was much fun.....no action, no bugles or chirps, just 2 4x4's out of 10 days.
At least you had action, regardless if you take something or not.
Enjoy the moose...and the little one....time will go quick!!!, and they grow up fast...if you haven't noticed it yet....you will.

Well, after last year's 'Dream Season', my hopes weren't all that high for 2015...but we managed to finish the year with a decently full freezer.
The year started off in February with my Bone Beer donated West Texas Aoudad hunt.

Spring bear season was pretty much a complete write-off due to my first health issues of my life....but luckily I recovered in time to get my ass in shape for the opening of sheep season up north. The weather was, by far, the worst we've ever encountered for the opener on August 1st. We didn't cut any tags but still managed to have a pretty good time!!

Next up for us was the opener for the local youth deer season. As usual, my daughter connected on opening day. We didn't get any of the big bucks we spotted the night before

With the earliest grape harvest in modern day, I was able to sneak out on November 1st and down the first decent whitetail that crossed my path...
https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xta1/v/t1.0-9/12188972_193510840985472_3676173618624358509_n.jpg ?oh=01326c5644f4d6793982b184c04e1d1e&oe=5710DF46

Since I had more time than usual for the late archery season I had high hopes but that was cut short by my weakness for deer meat....
https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/10259964_217393205263902_2285912230640131358_n.jpg ?oh=845a4af218f33ef5d3280cf69338fdae&oe=570C4501

So after 32 racks of burger venison jerky, the freezer is finally feeling content

https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/1916995_217310695272153_1922404670339209934_n.jpg? oh=a71e398a59bec8b274471d16596542b3&oe=5712051D

So, while not the dream season of last year, I certainly can't complain.

mine's been posted.
but it was decent.
whitey and a muley in the freezer.
whitey on the opening weekend and a fun snow-muley in the last week of the season.
the late-season muley was my favourite, still-hunting through deep snow.

dont judge the savage. Might not be too pretty but they shoot really well. You might need to spend the time fine tuning it but as a startup long range rig it works just fine.

Oh I agree, I'm not judging the Savage at all..I have a Savage 111 Package rifle with the package scope on it, shoots really well for a package gun that I paid $600 for...that's what my question is, do you think it's worth spendin a grand on a scope and tryin to turn it into a long range gun (although it's .30-06 caliber, not the best for long range)???

I look at it this way can if you get your gun shooting under 1 inch group at 100 if so its worth looking at, then there is the LR bullets that do help over the distance, then you can look at velocities, my gun is not a speed demon, its pushing 168 gr berger VLD at 2960 doesn't heat up to bad and still has good thump. the scope ya its over $1000 but you can always put it on a different rig you just need the turrets built once you collect the data. corlanes burns the turrets in no time..right now im gonna build my wife's rem model 7 7mm-08 with the 4-16x42 and I will look at 6.5 coming up.. the huskemaw is super easy to dial and fun , i dont want to spend so much time counting clicks and guessing where im shooting, I want to range it wind it and pull the trigger. so far for me it has been super easy and really accurate, when its time for me to build a nice custom gun the scope will still be there to go on it......

^^^^^wicked info, thanks Jetboater...ya with both my scoped rifles (both .30-06's) I'm lucky that they like the cheaper factory ammo, from what I can remember I'm pretty sure with Federal Fusions I can get sub MOA with my Savage 111...like you, I don't like counting clicks etc, so when doing longer range shots (I've worked my way up to 500 yard consistent groupings) I literally estimate holdover and let er rip, gone well so far, so the Huskemaw scope sounds like a good one for me, do you have a link to its specs and info??? I'm also thinkin when I can finally afford the next rifle of getting a Savage with the accutrigger...my goal is to work my way to consistent 1000 yard groupings, lol I know I have a long way to go..

That's a good spike moose/wolf deal. Gotta love that story.

Can't help but wonder, since the sausage pics followed the 'yote. Are those coyote kielbasas? :-)

We had a good season too. One picture perfect hunt first week of October for my wife's first moose and then a bunch of other short hunts. Just had a weekend feast with my hunting buddies and their families - moose osso bucco, fresh smoked sausage, muley roast, a little bear, and a smoked duck. I am so happy we moved to butchering our own stuff and made the investment in a good grinder, smoker and vacuum sealer.

And guess what? Spring bear's coming up fast!

I have a policy
i don't eat anything with paws and claw. Not against people bear hunting or what have you. I just feel like we shoot enough hooves animals I don't need to go that way.
