Hey guys,

I'm new to Waterfowling just started about 3-4 months ago and i'm loving it so far. I just wanted to ask for some tips or pointer's. And what duck calls and geese calls should i get. I'm young and i'm on a tight budget because of my age. I have all the licenses i need for Waterfowling and i hunt under my dad until i can get my own licence. So i just came to ask for those pointer's and tips and calls to get.

Welcome to water fowling! If you are on a budget, a good, cheap duck call that I have had success with is a Buck Gardner " Double Nasty", there are other inexpensive calls also, Primos etc, but I happen to like the double nasty. Once you get a call, practice, practice, practice! Lots of good videos on YouTube to show you how to call, and try not to " over call " , too much calling can be a bad thing, especially when you are learning. Practice every chance you get and you will get it. It's a pretty cool feeling when you call and they respond, good luck and enjoy learning

I would recommend the Zink Polycarb calls the ATM (for duck) and the COD (for geese) great calls for the money they sell for around 39.99 and 79.99 if you want maple

Your on facebook, checkout canadian waterfowler buy sell trade, you can find some calls there.
As mentioned before, get a call and practice once you start driving, leave your calls in your truck and every time your traveling your practicing. Be kind to your passengers. I would suggest you save up and pick up a decent used call for next season.
decoys always come on sale right before season starts and right after (boxing day sales where decent this yr too)

dont rush into into buying anything you want as it will come on sale for the most part! Bargine cave at cabelas is a great place to get cheap stuff

Welcome!

I'm only a couple seasons more experienced than you are but I will say the following about duck calls:
- try it before you buy it. you've been in the marsh enough to know what a duck sounds like. some cheap calls sound great. Some expensive ones sound terrible.
- don't eat peanuts before using your duck call.
- as you get a few calls and need to hang them on a lanyard, make sure that lanyard is short enough your calls won't fall below your waist if you ever have to pee in the marsh.

Hard earned advice, no charge;-)

Mason,

I make custom wood calls. PM me with your address and I will give you one. I don't mind helping young hunters out. Here are some picks of my calls.

Good post, Buck Gardner calls are a great budget call. The Double Nasty, Big Water, Canada Hammer, all work well and are relatively easy to blow. Practise lots but not in the blind bad calling is worse than no calling at all. There are a number of good waterfowlers on this site. Welcome to the madness.

Hey Mason,

I have finish your duck call. It is made of Sumatra rosewood. It turned out good and sounds great. It's loud....I have a Youtube video of it. I will ship it to you on Monday....I hope you like it! All I ask is for you to share your stories and pictures of your hunts on HBC. Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the call.
