Looking for any info on this camera, as luck would have it Telus recently installed a cell tower in an area that I've been scouting for years. Having pics sent to me would definitely curb the urge that I have to go & check my cams every other day.

I'm just concerned about purchasing a $500 headache. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Been looking into one. Talked to buddy from Grouse River, says they sell quite a few to the municipality to set up catching illegal garbage dumping, graffiti, vandals etc. and they work well. But for the whole package including lock box, chain/lock n tax you're in the $800 range. For that kinda dough I'd be worried about batteries dying while away in camp so I'd need a solar panel charger too, another couple hundred. I'm still on the fence...

And there's some sort of monthly 3G fee...

I believe Telus offers a unlimited picture messaging plan for about $15 a month with no minimum contract length

and that was a main reason i didn't buy the uway and went with covert instead.
i got the code black 3G cam, lockbox, python cable lock, solar panel, and booster antenna for about $550.

and something to do, is go walk your intended area with your cellphone to check for how strong your reception is there.

just get extra data.
i think mine is done as a tablet plan.
way cheaper to have it send the data to your email than to have pictures sent to your phone.
and it ends up being the same result with a smartphone, pics instantly pop up on your phone.

Just got one on Ebay for $304 US, even with the crappy exchange rate and whatever fee the credit card company charges, it only came to $437 US with free shipping to Blaine; which is still a lot cheaper than anything you'll find in Canada. Then the security box is another $40 Cdn and the python lock and cable is another $20. If you're buying in Canada you're probably looking at over $600 or $700 Canadian after taxes. Will let you know when I have it setup once the snow melts. Can't wait!!

I can get from my local sporting store a camera for $520 plus taxes. My main concern is'nt price or data plans it's knowing that I can put that thing out in the bush and get reliable pictures without too many tech issues with the setup

your main issue will be whether or not your spot has good enough reception.
always best to go check with your cellphone first, and upon placing the cam.

Cell service is excellent I have better reception out in the bush than I do in town. Where is Brittany located? Thanks

Not a good idea to buy a 500 dollar camera to start out with in my books get something in the 150 dollar class first so you can experiment with it..to many of these cameras walk
there are some decent cameras out there in the 150 price range..

I've been running up to 4 cams a season of all makes for years, I have no problems with camera placement, setup or angles on trails. My hours of work make it difficult to stay on top of everything, having a camera that will monitor a heavily used secluded spot is very appealing

Another option, that could save you a few hundred bucks, is the Uway MB500. (older gen cam being cleared)
A few in my gang, including myself, picked some up this fall.
They were being cleared out at $279 or $299.
Operates on 2G........and 2G aint going anywhere soon so don't have any short term concerns.

I didn't do a search tonight for any remaining inventory that was associated with this particular sale so I cant steer you.

I can say this model is performing reasonably well for us and I have no complaints to date after 3 months of use.

If there is any inventory still being offered at this price point it is worthy of consideration.

Telus plans are $15 per month unlimited . You can have the pics sent to your email or cell number. In order to have the batteries last longer than a week you have to send lower quality pics 5mp if I remember correctly. Mine does not like areas where any direct sunlight gets at the camera when taking a pic ( lots of glare). Have had problems with the camera responding to snap requests, also this feature eats batteries fast. In areas with good service 12aa can last 6 weeks but in cold bad cell conditions 2 weeks. I wish it showed the battery level on the pics so you know when to go out and replace the battery's. Solar panels would be nice but I feel they will help others notice the camera and it will be stolen.

they send lower quality image to email/phone.
high quality image will be on tcam.
without a solar panel, batteries will be burned through quickly, as searching for signal and sending data will be harder on them.
mine shows battery level on pics.
and yeah, the more things you add, the more it will stand out.
i dont put my celcam just anywhere, i make sure its remote and not in the best spots.
