I have a local rabbit population that is costing me $1000's in lost time and repairs as they seem to have gotten a taste for new wires on some of my equipment on the farm. I can't move the equipment out of their reach.
I need a good recommendation on a trap or method to remove them. Shooting them is not on option, I never see them during the day and I don't have the time or patience to wait around with a gun anyways.
Please advise.
Thanks

Stale urine! Collect your morning urine for 2-3 days in a 2lt pop bottle. Leave it in a warm place between collection. Drill a small hole in the lid and spray it around the equipment being targeted. It'll keep all the critters away and all you need to do is keep topping up the 'marking' every couple of days.

Are you sure it's rabbits, not rats or pack rats?

It's not an ideal place to shoot, it's not pack rats ( they don't live around here) and it's not rats, rats leave a different bite mark and other signs.
I often see the offending (saber tooth )rabbit early mornings before first light right around the area they are causing me grief.
My repair specialist also told me that rabbits are causing the same problems at another site similar to mine.

Hire a 15 year old kid with a pellet gun. $5.00 for every left ear.

I'll come shoot them with a pellet gun during the night if you wish but I get to keep the rabbits

We do have pack rats in the valley, contrary to belief. (closer to forested land) If rabbits are your problem, you can purchase wire cage traps with doors on each end that snap closed once an animal reaches the middle. Then you can shoot them with a pellet gun right in the cage.

live traps. corn or veggies work great. don't have to worry about anything unintentionally getting snared or snapped. the traps are cheap and in a few days you can clean them out pretty quick.

after they're in the trap i used to put them in a gunny sack and whack them on the head. dad used to shoot them (right in the trap).

A friend of mine has a converted waste oil diesel car that he has problems with rats getting in and chewing everything out of. He has constructed a small wall around his parking area, it looks like a mini hockey rink with sheet metal on the top foot or so so the rats can't climb over it. If your problem is only bunnies then you could do something similar but very cheaply with some rabbit proof fencing.

You are unlikely to kill them all, no matter how hard you try. You might want to run some protective material around the equipment.

Climbing in the Bugaboos years ago I was really surprised to pull into the parking lot and all the cars were wrapped in chicken wire. Apparently the local rodents had developed a taste for brake lines and the only solution was to keep them out with fencing. It looked pretty weird, that's for sure.

I remember a bud of mine came home one time to find his pet rabbit had chewed through his lamp cord and had electrocuted himself. Any electricians out there?

I've set a live catch trap, fenced of the easy access points and spent 3 hrs last night wrapping all my exposed load cell wires with 1/4 mesh in hopes to keep the rabbits at bay. Not the easiest job considering it all had to be done thru tiny access panels reaching below ground level to get to the wires.
It's snowing here this morning I hope that enough snow sticks that I might be able to see tracks to better place my traps or worst case wait up for the bugger with a gun some night.
