I'm curious of people's different ice fishing set ups. I've been using a flat fish with a treble hook and a piece of shrimp. What's your favourite set up?

What kind of fish are you running after?

For rainbows this is the magic bait... almost like that episode of King Of The Hill when Hank was using crack...

Some bait (where bait is allowed) with some split shot or a bell sinker in 6 feet of water equals these guys

Most people call those qwik fish or apex now . I know what your talking about tho and they work like a hot damn .

I think the op is talking about the regular "flat" lead weight ice fishing hook ?

We just use the regular weighted jig head with worms or like you shrimp . Works great when they are biting

I use a four inch spoon with a bare hook tied on a 8" leader. And shrimp, meal worms, regular worms whatever works. Use that setup everywhere.

for rainbows and brookies I tend to focus on smaller baits...jigs, jigging raps, spoons or just a split shot and single hook...one rod always has a spoon with a dropper and sliver of raw shrimp or worm

for lakers, especially on lakes with big fish, I start on the larger side and work my way down....only been out once this year and got skunked, can't wait for some walleyes on the ice

edit - to clarify - lake trout pics were cold lake, sk..hence the minnow ;)

To be fair... I always thought of tube jigs were for perch. But then I went trout fishing back in Toronto... caught some on the same jigs shown here. So I have played with jigs back here on the slower ice fishing days... with success

tubes are very versatile in different sizes, they work for everything, trout love em

you were fishing simcoe back in TO?

Trying Round lake near Smithers/Telkwa. Rainbow and cutthroat are in the lake and I've been out only once so far this season. Recently moved here and was thinking I might have to try another technique but by the responses, it looks like I'm on track. Thanks for the replies

I have always had good luck with a small yellow spoon with the diamonds on them (Not sure what they are called) with a worm on it. Works well with an erratic jiggy action.

I think they may have been rapala or matzuo branded... look exactly the same though

You mean 5 of diamonds?

Yes that's the one. Just a little one. It slayed at Duggan lake, and Dorsey lake in the Cariboo and at Tunkwater lake as well. Good little set up.

Hook line sinker and a slip float, usually in past it was with shrimp and corn for bait. I don't think its been cold enough yet here in the Shuswap for ice to be dafe enough for ice fishing.
