My 10 yr old son, Cody, did an awesome job today and was able to take his first big game animal, a sweet 6 foot plus brown boar. Shot it with his maternal grandfather's 30-30.

Thanks for all the nice comments. It definitely does make a father proud to see your kid kill his first big game animal. He already has decided he wants to get another bear tag and keep on hunting bears this spring. Since this bear is his first, we will be rugging it.

Here's a few more pics from the day. We managed to get a little shed hunt in and a mother's day picnic. Was a great day.

Cody found his first elk shed.

We found this little cave and checked it out.

Here I am packin out some bear quarters back to the truck with my Eberlistock.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/BCBOY/May13a070a.jpg

We saw 6 bears total today as well as numerous deer, both whitetails and muleys. Saw lots of waterfowl too.

Kirby,
With his luck he may just be killing a Kamloops Lake Ram this fall. You should see how he wins at the 'under the cap' bottle games. He always wins a free pop. Maybe, just maybe, he'll draw that elusive ram tag.

Nice bear! Congrats to your son Dana, I to am hopeing to get my first bear this May long weekend, with a black bear tag AND A GRIZZLY DRAW it should be quite an adventure for me since I only have shot 1 other animal and that was a cow moose back in september, shot it for my first.

Bighornbob,
I'm still waiting to see the issue. Figure it should be in the mail any day now.

Thanks for all the comments on Cody's bear. He definately has been reading them. Definately helps to build his confidence. Sure wish I had of been able to kill a bear like that when I was his age. Man, I had a ton of issues as a kid when it came to bears. I guess I can attribute it to 'Bear Fever'. I went 4 years of missing a ton of bears before I finally connected with my first bear, a 4'8" runt. Heck, I didn't kill my first 6 footer until I was in my 20's. Here Cody goes out on his first day of bear hunting with his very own tag in his pocket and he kills a 6 foot plus bear. I think he'll be whackin those 7 foot monsters in no time. ;)

Nice going Coady!

Dana Maybe you should get your young fella to join the ranks on HBC. You could always help him out with posting. There is no age limit to being a member. If you're old enough to hunt then you're old enough to be a member :D

dana

Marc,
Got him to sign up but I see you only allow one user per email addy. I used another email addy and now it says I have to await admin approval. Haven't checked yet, but if you haven't sent the approval, here's your chance.
