That's awesome. Cool looking little critter. We used to have coats made of the fur back in the old country. Expensive stuff.

Mr Marten visited a Bobcat Cuddy and stole the rabbits foot i left out front and could careless about the rabbit carcass in the cubby...lol

They sure stink eh? I see the trapper in the area that i'm working in has his line set up. He's had three in the five sets that I can see along the road. In fact, I can smell them in areas that he doesn't have traps, in his area. Maybe I should let him in on that info...

Right on, I just started my first year of real trapping. I've only had a handful of traps out since last Tuesday and already have 1 weasel, 1 marten and 1 fisher. No photo's to share though. I'm happy with the beginning of my year, but don't think it's all that sustainable.

its my first year out

Last week i set 8 bait piles over 12km to see what species are coming in, i did set 4 traps and caught this Marten fresh...guessing that morning. This past week on my line i set 12 marten boxes and 5 bobcat cubbies

i had a few piles hit either by a squirrel or a marten...and one was hit hard by a bobcat! so i removed those pile hit and replaced them with sets

Cool looking Martin!

I'm no trapper but was out with a guy who knows his stuff and he figures it's best to try and hang your trap off a branch so the animal will hang away from the tree when caught - will help keep the squirrels etc getting at your fur before you get back... just 2 cents FWIW...

Why do you think it is not sustainable?

I was referring to sustainable success, I think it's mostly beginners luck. Environmentally it's completely sustainable. Still need to get a better understanding of marten home ranges, etc, but hopefully I'll put up a few more pelts before the year is done.
