This was a really wild moose I shot up near McBride in September. Probably about 9 years old according to most people I've talked to. Went out with my brother and a friend with tents and supplies to last us 4 days in the bush and I shot this guy at about 9 am and we were home for dinner that night lol. The gun in the picture was actually just for bear protection, I didn't shoot the moose with that 45-70. I shot it with a .270 using 130 gr noslers.

I shot this guy a few days ago, after spending literally every minute of free time I could spare since Sept trying to figure out what deer hunting is all about. And I mean EVERY minute, after work, all day every weekend.... I got this buck at 300 yards with my Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 I just bought. Had the stock hydrodipped that's why its not normal looking. Not the buck I really wanted to get, sort of wanted to be patient and wait for the big 4pt I know is around. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 right haha

Ya That's the Vanguard with the buck. They came with really ugly stocks but were a good deal, and the 45-70 sure does make you feel safer when ur standing in a fresh pile of guts in the middle of bear territory!

Well done!
Eve's 45/70 GG is also stainless steel with a detachable scope.
What bullets are you using for bear protection?

I am running 430 grain buffalo bore ammunition in my GG. They are difficult to find but man are they a tough bullet. I ordered in 3 boxes online for 270 bucks from some hole in the wall shop in whitecourt as they were the only place I could find them. Very happy with them and the 3 boxes will likely last me a lifetime. The penetration is ridiculous.

Another option is the HMS bear load which are Also 430 grain and can be found at cabelas. They will run you about 60-70 bucks a box. Link below. The best thing would be to work up a heavy hand load but for factory bullets the ones I've mentioned have been flawless for me.

The rounds in the 45-70 are 325 gr Hornadays. I've never had to actually use it but I assume they pack enough punch to at least scare something away if it came down to it. And That bull only went about 50 yards, but it was straight down a hill.... lol

Try calling Reliable Guns in Vancouver, they might be able to help you there(buffalo bore)
What isn't expensive in Whitecourt??

Nice moose!! Love the rack on it. Racks make me horny. I'm all about the moose!!
Thanks for posting. I wish more people would post their hunting successes or failures.
Just seems like a bunch of guys and gals bitching about stuff nowadays most of it not even hunting related.

Nice bull logan, very unique with the brow palms. I see your fairly new to hunting, my advice to you would be to not say anywhere near where you got a nice bull from if you want to hunt it again anytime soon. Happy hunting, a great year so far.

Staying off the trigger is the hardest thing to learn. That will come in time. Meanwhile shoot some bucks and keep learning. Great buck. Sounds like you put your time in.
Wicked rack on that bull!!

Only one shot needed -Buffalo bore 405 grain jacketed lead bullet-grizzly was dead before hitting the ground.
